The Younger Generation Theatre Group was set up in 1989 to give young people the opportunity to appear on the stage in a professional theatre environment.
We stage our annual Show at the Ashcroft Theatre in Croydon.
The Show features a cast of about a hundred young people aged 9 to 18. All new cast members are auditioned and lack of previous experience is not a bar to
anyone joining us. Each year we invite up to half of the cast to participate in the show for the following year.
Our 2010 Show will be a "REVUSICAL" which is a cross between a Revue and a Musical. It features singing, dancing and comedy presented in a format not only
to stretch the talent and ability of the young performers but also provide a lively, colourful and exciting evening's entertainment. There is a mixture of colour, spectacle
and great music from the world of film and stage musicals together with popular songs.
We have found that parents are amazed at the final result and what their child has been able to achieve over in the short time that they have been with us.
IMPORTANT
WE DO EXPECT COMMITMENT FROM OUR CAST. THAT IS WHY EVERYONE MUST ATTEND THE LAST TWO SUNDAY REHEARSALS AT ST MARKS HALL
ON 22nd AND 29th AUGUST AND AT THE TWO REHEARSALS AT THE ASHCROFT THEATRE.
Please do not ask if you can miss any of these days, as the answer will be NO, for any reason.
Rehearsals are held as follows:-
Every Sunday afternoon from 2nd May to 29th August 2010 (inclusive) from 1.45 to 6.00. Except for the 22nd August when the rehearsal will last from 12.45 till 8.00.
***ALL REHEARSALS ARE AT ST. MARK'S CHURCH HALL, CHURCH ROAD, PURLEY***
Our 2010 show will be presented from 2nd. Sept to, 4th. Sept 2010 at the Ashcroft Theatre, Croydon.
We have a highly organised and planned programme of rehearsals and it is essential that full attendance is maintained. Full commitment is required and it is importantthat absences are kept to a minimum. If you do have other commitments for Sundays or are going to miss more that three SundayS due to holidays you will not be able to take part in our 2010 show.
Allocations of parts could be lost through missed rehearsals. For the safety of the children, all adult helpers will be CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checked.
In June 2001 we were invited to take part in the Queen's Jubilee Parade in The Mall, London. Over 110 members and their families were on the floats that were in the "50 Years' Parade".
We also represented N.O.D.A. at the late Queen Mother's 90th & 100th Birthday Parade at Horse Guards Parade in London.
The cost of membership on joining is £60.00 (sixty pounds) plus a refundable costume deposit of £17.00 and a £40 seat deposit(refundable against show seat).
We provide most of the costumes used in our shows although we may ask you to wear some of yourown normal clothes if required. We do not expect you to go out and buy any special items.
Each cast member gets free refreshment of squash and biscuits during a break at rehearsals. We also have our own small Tuck Shop that sells canned drinks, crispsand sweets at reasonable prices.
The principal members of our Production Team all have many years experience of working with young people.
