The images were created during a year long artist residency at the sickle cell and thalassaemia support project. Sickle cell disease is a term to describe a group of blood disorders affecting the red blood cells. There are three common types; Sickle Cell Anaemia, Sickle ‘C’ Disease and Sickle Beta-Thalassaemia. It most commonly affects people of African Caribbean, Middle Eastern and Eastern Mediterranean descent.
