Overview
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a 2003 film, a remake of the 1974 film The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. The film was directed by Marcus Nispel and produced by Michael Bay. The film was released on October 17, 2003 in North America. The film made a Worldwide Gross of $107,071,655, keeping in mind the film was not released around the entire planet. Had it been, the film could easily have grossed $150 million.
Plot
In 1973, a group of college kids traveling through the back roads of Texas encounter a chainsaw wielding maniac and his homicidal family. After picking up a suicidal teen in the middle of town, the kids are lured in to the murderous clutches of Leatherface.
Differences From The original
The cast of teenagers have different motivations than they did in the original. The original group were trying to solve a grave-digging mystery, whereas the teenagers here are headed to a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert. Some of the group also smoke and sell marijuana, although this was frowned upon by others in the group.
The original film's most striking elements, the ones that still separate it from the later slasher franchises, are pared. The infamous 'dinner scene' is not present, although a variation is set to be in the prequel.
There are some stylistic changes. The presentation is more like a mainstream horror movie than the original's gritty, realistic tone, and the cinematography is much more focused on water and darkness than baking sunlight and bone-dry heat.
