Daata Ganj Bakhsh is a much revered sufi-scholar who descended from Ali bin Talib, the cousin and son-in-law of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Born in 1009 in Ghazni, Afghanistan, he settled in Lahore, where he died in 1072. He is best known for his book Kashf al-Mahjub (Revelation of the Unseen), "the oldest Persian treatise on Sufism".
