Lahore: Anarkali's Tomb
Anarkali's Tomb in the Punjab Secretariat, Lahore. Photographs by Ihsan Aslam. Anarkai (the pomegranite blossom) was the title of Nadira Begum or Sharf-un-Nisa, one of the favorites of the harem of Mughal Emperor Akbar. He susupected her of a relationship with his son Salim and had her buried alive in 1599. When Salim became the emperor (Jahangir) he had the tomb built over her grave. So the legend goes.
