Welcome! Croeso! Fáilte!
Welcome to the Area 26 home page. Here we have details of Area events and of how to contact the Tables in Area 26. If you are unfamiliar with Round Table, you are most welcome here. Round Table, and its sister club Ladies Circle, are the premier club for young professionals aged 18 to 45.

Dr Sean Devane, 1956-2008 (Past Chairman Beckenham RT 104, 2001 - 2002; Past President Beckenham RT104 2005 - 2007). A talented, genuine and gentle man who examplified the spirit of Round Table.
We were saddened to learn of the passing of Dr Sean Devane on Friday 2nd May from cancer. Sean was simply a great guy who devoted his professional life to caring for children. He was greatly admired and respected by his friends in Table. Sean was a consultant Paediatrician at King's College Hospital, London. Having originally retired from Table upon turning 40, he rejoined Table in Beckenham in 1998 after his wife, Stephanie, a local GP, drew his attention to an appeal for members in the local paper following the change in the age rule. He contributed greatly to Table with gusto and enthusiasm. He was Chairman in 2001 to 2002, and after retiring from Table a second time was President from 2005 to 2007. Former and current members of Beckenham 104 have diverse fond memories of Sean. One which readily springs to mind was one evening when we attempted to guess how many initials he had after his name - the answer was, I think, 16 (MD FRCP(I) FRCPCH DCH) - but it could easily have been more! Suffice to say that Sean was a regular player in the Beckenham and Area 26 Quiz Teams during his time in Table. Sean was diagnosed with cancer in September 2004. He endured all that this terrible affliction threw at him with courage aided and supported by his loving family - his wife Stephanie and sons Eoin (19 - in his second year reading Maths at Merton College, Oxford) and Aidan (16 - doing his GCSEs). To them we offer our sincere condolences on their great loss.

Interested in Membership? The members of Round Table come from all walks of life and join for a variety of reasons - perhaps as a gateway to relaxation and to enjoyment, or as a way of participating in the local community. It is, of course, an ideal way for those who have moved into a new area to find new friends of a similar age. Membership of Round Table helps to create confidence and character. The individual learns quickly to mix and 'have-a-go' at helping to organise and run meetings and events. The organisation is run by and for Tablers as a hobby. How do I become a member? After attending as a guest for a time, potential members are invited to join. There are no barriers regarding one's political, religious, occupational or marital status and the only qualification is to be male, over 18 and under 45. What about the costs and commitment involved? There is an annual subscription fee but this varies between the clubs and is dependent on their location and activities. All members are required to attend at least 60% of meetings (these are twice a month and will often include a meal and drinks) and to support and participate in as many of the other activities as possible. As with any hobby the more you put in, the more you get out. This is the challenge of Round Table. What if I move to another part of the country? This is where being a member of Round Table really pays off. If you move elsewhere there will be a Round Table Club close by. Once a member of Round Table always a member. If you find yourself in an unfamiliar village, town, city or country then there will be a group of friends waiting to welcome you.. all you have to do is phone them and say that you've moved in. You then simply transfer from your old Table/Circle to the new one. To find out more simply contact Area Chairman, Martyn Hooton, by clicking here.
