I'm trying to make a new dialogue topic, and it seems to look fine in the construction set. But when I try to use it in the game, no matter which choice I click, I get the question again. I eventually have to reload just to get out of that dialogue box. What is wrong?

do you have something in the results box that might be stuffing this up? It's usually something in the results that does that sort of thing. It can happen quite easily with something like the continue function, though you said your thing was trying to actually simply access the topic...

Did you place answers higher that the question in the list? If you did not, then do so.

For dialogue, the engine tests the variables and displays the first dialogue that satisfies the variables. So if you have a catch-all dialogue with no variables, then place it right at the bottom because the engine scans the dialogues from top to bottom.

As Kir mentioned, the answers have to go above the question. Sounds backwards, but it works. You can move entries in the Info/Response list up and down by using the left- and right-arrow keys. Saves you some retyping.
You might want to go through Srikandi's Dialogue Tutorial. (link in pinned thread above) It covers this problem plus much, much more.

Ah, thanks- that looks like the problem. And I was wondering why the vaguest dialogues were at the bottom...
