Tuesday 1 July 2008 at Millennium Hall, Great Baddow.
1. President Margaret Lough opened meeting and welcomed ladies.

4. Matters Arising. Mrs. Glasier is new Match Secretary of Epping not Hon. Secretary.
Urgent. Jill needs correct addresses for each bowls club, including a post code where possible, also an e-mail address for a willing contact person for each club (this does not have to be the secretary). Please check handbook and send the correct information to Jill by Saturday 12 July. The information can be emailed.
5. Correspondence.
(1). I have a booklet about £100 Bowling Club Challenge to help beat Breast Cancer if any club in interested in raising money for this good cause.
(2). De Montfort Hotel, Kenilworth are doing a special B&B rate of £49 for the National Championships. Phone Rachael 01926 855957 or e-mail sales(at)demontforthotel(dot)com (Substitute the (at)=@ and (dot)=.)

(4). Card from Joyce Grainger thanking everyone for the cards and kind thoughts received on the recent death of her husband Ron.
(5). Change of address from Mrs. Joan Heys, Secretary of Ainslie Wood, 26 Kingswood Court, 175 Chingford Mount Road, Chingford E4 8LL No change of telephone number.
(6). Correct address for Mrs. Eveline Speller, Secretary of Danbury, 36 Cooper Court , Spital Road, Maldon CM9 6DU Tel. 01621 842430.
(7). Letter from Carol Pope who has recently moved to Shropshire.
(8). Letter confirming that Mrs. Diane Ingle, SVP of BE will be attending our County Luncheon.
(9). Letter from Loxford Park advising us, with deep regret, that Loxford Park will be closing at the end of the 2008 season.
(10). I have received various e-mails and telephone calls regarding times offered for County Competitions. I have also received an e-mail from Tony Allcock to keep me informed as to the content of an e-mail he received from a competitor in the county with his reply. (I would just like to point out that if anyone feels the need to correspond with Bowls England, it is only courteous to send a copy to your County Secretary). The outcome of all this is that commonsense must prevail. The challenger often has restrictions imposed on them by the green keeper and other domestic arrangements. Things like hospital appointments, working hours and other commitments, etc. have to be considered. The non-challenger likewise may have various things for consideration. Polite requests and not demands for a more convenient time for play, would in most cases be met with, if at all possible. We should all consider the time we have available to us when deciding how many competitions to enter. There are only so many hours in a day after all. A Bowls England Equity Policy has been written and will be presented at the next General Meeting for approval. This recommends that all Members (Counties) consider working women and those involved in full time education. It states that "Bowls England will ensure that everyone who wishes has an equal opportunity to participate in the sport at all levels and in all roles". We all have rights to participate in the sport we have chosen to play. We all have rights to be spoken to with politeness and to be shown respect. Please ladies, try to do your best to treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself.
6. Treasurers Report. The balance on our accounts as at 27 June were: Current a/c £5924.06. Deposit a/c including Herring Fund £22500.00. Outstanding cheques £840.00 giving an overall balance of £27584.06. Subject to finalising the figures, I believe the Benevolent Triples raised £580 for the President's Charity and £822.50 for the County Benevolent Fund. So far £454.20 has been raised for the Under 31s. This includes a £300 grant from the Essex Bowls Council and will go towards the expenses of our Amy Rose Team, who play at Leamington at the beginning  of August.
The introduction of new Airflow breathable County tops has been very popular but as some players prefer the polycot ton shirts, I shall continue to hold stocks of both.
It is normal at this time to announce the changes in the levels of various fees for the 2009 season. This year I propose leaving everything as it is. We have a healthy balance and a reasonable reserve which will help to stave off the effects of the petrol and food price increases. Additionally, should our Johns team get through to Leamington, each member of the team will be given £50 expenses, up from £30 in 2005. Money raised at the raffle of quarter finals day will go towards our Leamington team allowances so please support this raffle by donating nice prizes as well as buying tickets.
200+ club draw. 1st prize £60 - Number 27 Edna Woods Anchor Press Tiptree. 2nd  £40 Number 16 Matthew Polley Great Baddow. 3rd £25 Number 72 Pauline Adams Witttle.
7. Benevolent Report. Margaret Benz reported 16 payments of £25 = £400. Total in fund £9197.69. Raffle money raised Benevolent Triples Day. A Area £400, B Area £164, C Area £451, D Area £136 = Total £1151. Thanks expressed to all clubs.
8. Bowls England Report. View report.
9. Tour Report from Margaret Green. 30 August to Hampshire staying at Belvedere Hotel, Bournemouth. 2009 tour Northumberland.
10. County Luncheon. 15 October 2008 Stock Brook Country Club. Menu - Fan of Melon with Fruit Coulis Sauce. Roast Beef with trimmings. Chocolate Mouse. Coffee and Mints. Maximum 250, tickets £22. Number of tickets required, with cheques by 30 September to Jill Polley. Names also required for ladies to be invited under the Thelma Herring fund. Wickford have agreed to do the raffle this year, but would like another club to take over next year. Please remember your raffle prize.
11. Nominations required for JVP for 'A' Area, and all other County Officers by 15 September 2008.
12. County Finals. Unfortunately these will not be able to be held at Wickford this year. The President's green suffered vandalism at the beginning of the season and now there is to be a strike of the Basildon and District Council workers on the 16 and 17 July which will cause all the council greens in that area to be closed. South Benfleet have agreed to host our finals day on Wednesday 16 July. We must say a huge thank you to them for rearranging their matches and saving the day at such short notice. Finals Day 9.30 for 10.00 start.  County quarter finals to be held at Falcon BC on Friday 11 July, am and pm, also at Great Baddow BC, am only. County Semi finals at Falcon BC on Monday 14 July. The final of the Two Wood competition will also be played that day.
13. AOB.
(1). Intergroup Matches. Due to lack of response again this year for some of the matches, it has been decided to make these games 6 Triples for each match, rather than cancel the competition.
(2). Essex Patrons Day on 19 September. B & C venues are Hockley and Southend only and not United Services.
(3). Please will County bowlers remember to acknowledge receipt of their selection cards for matches by phoning Eileen. If we do not get confirmation we can follow it up, as some cards are either being delayed or lost in the post. Eileen does not want to spend time and money making unnecessary phone calls.
(4). The dress code on page 151 is being interpreted to suit the individual1 The paragraphs headed hats, shoes, umbrellas and smoking all apply to County Competitions and will be repositioned on the page next year. Wendy is constantly replenishing her stocks of the new airflow cream shirt with red/gold trim on the collar, which must be worn for County Matches. Please order directly from her (£20 each).
(5). Please return all trophies, clean, to Jill as soon as possible.
(6). Walker Cup. Unfortunately we lost in the first round to Hertfordshire.
(7). Johns Trophy. Two great results. We won v Kent in the first round and v Sussex in the second round. We are playing Hertfordshire in the Group final on Tuesday 8 July at Cambridge Chesterton BC St Andrews Road, Cambridge. We must get our revenge for the Walker Cup defeat.
(8). Condolences to IWVP after their club house was completely destroyed by fire.
(9). Points. If clubs have suggestions for another formula regarding our points system, then please submit to Jill. We will not revert to "Possibles". Jills Email address is published in County Handbook
(10). Pam Foley thanked Area Secretary's for competition results which are posted on web site.
