NORTH & SOUTH ESSEX FOURS 2010
From the Competition Secretary.
I have been concerned for some time about the congestion caused at the start of the season with so many competitions starting in May and early June. I have decided therefore to seek the approval of the Executive at the September meeting for the following alteration:-
Commencing next season the North and South Essex Fours will be played on a fixed date, this day being a Monday. The South Essex Fours, due to a greater number of entries will start the First or Preliminary Round on or before Monday the 21st June with all subsequent rounds to be played on Monday 28th June, Monday 5th July, Monday 12th July, Monday 19th July, Monday 26th July, The Semi Final on Monday 2nd August and the Final on Sunday 8th August. The North Essex Fours will commence play on Monday 28th June and the dates will be the same as the South from there to the Final. I have decided on a Monday as it would seem logical that this is a day that will cause the least disruption to any four. Should one member of the team still be in the County Singles then the rules regarding a substitute would apply. However because of the greater number of entries for the South I have determined that the initial Round be played as on or before, but only for the South and only for the initial Round. Should this proposal be approved I will confirm the details on the web so that applicants for these two competitions will be aware of the changes prior to completion of their entry.
THE ABOVE PROPOSAL WAS APPROVED AT THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING ON 7 SEPTEMBER

(8 Sep 2009) COMPETITION CHANGES 2010 I can now confirm that the changes I proposed reference the North & South Essex Fours have been approved by the Executive. The following changes were also approved:- In an attempt to return the Inter Group Knockout to the prominent position it deserves I have rescheduled the County Shield and County Double Fours Semi-Finals to a Saturday. As a consequence the Preliminary Round of the Inter Group Knockout will be played on Sunday 11th July. The First Round will be played on Sunday 18th July. The Semi-Final and Final will be played on 22nd August and 29th August respectively. Should our Middleton Cup Team be successful and get to Worthing, as we all hope, I have provided an alternative date in September to accommodate this. The Semi-Final would therefore be played on Sunday 29th August and the Final on Sunday 12th September. In an effort to make the County Semi-Finals more player friendly I have determined that they should commence at 10.00 am and continue, after a buffet lunch, in the afternoon. Those involved in the third place playoffs will play those particular games in the evening. This approach would ensure that players did not have to make the journey back to Essex County on the Sunday to play a game to a virtually empty gallery and save both time and money. I have determined that the Under 25's Final should be played on Finals day. I accept that to some changes of any sort are viewed with both suspicion and scepticism. I have however made these changes, not for change sake, but in the hope that competitors will derive some benefit from them. Alex Wightman County Competition Secretary (8 Sep 2009) EASTERN COUNTIES FINALS Edward Morris has reached the Eastern Counties Under 25 Singles Final after beating Sam Tunbridge (Cambs) 21-8.
