The Parish of Llay

Welcome to the Website of The Church of St Martin of Tours in the Parish of Llay. Llay is just outside the large border town of Wrexham and our Parish is in The Diocese of St Asaph, one of six dioceses that make up the Anglican Church in Wales.

We meet to worship each Sunday in the Parish Church of St Martin of Tours, which was built between the years of 1923-25. The Church was built as the third daughter church of the Parish of Gresford, and until 1944 it was under the Pastoral Care of the Curates of Gresford. On 13 December 1944, Llay became a parish in its own right and the Rev'd Charles Williams became the first Vicar of Llay. Our present Vicar, the Rev'd Pauline Walker is the seventh Vicar.

Church is about people, and our website exists to tell of the activities of the People of God in this part of North Wales. We hope that you will enjoy your visit to our site, and that if you are ever in these parts you will come to join with us for worship.

	The Patron Saint of our Parish is Blessed Saint Martin of Tours. Martin (d. c397) was a Roman Centurion. One cold day, Martin pulled his coat around him. Then he saw a poor man who had no coat. Martin took his sword, cut his coat in two, and gave half to the poor man. That night, he had a dream. Jesus was in the dream, wearing Martin's coat. The story of Martin reminds us of Jesus' words, "Whatever you do for the least of my brothers and sisters, you do for me". Martin was eventually elected as Bishop of Tours. The Feast of St Martin of Tours falls each year on 11 November,
