Accomplishments

W eight has been an issue in our family since "forever" among my father, my sister and myself. Well, those two became vegetarians (plus my skinny brother) and my Dad dove lock, stock and barrel into a healthy lifestyle. His drive and determination was an inspiration to everyone including thousands of loyal customers, everyone except me. After he lost the 100 pounds, he was Mr. GQ, tall and lean. I, on the other hand, was stagnant with no drive. I'm married with a family so, I didn't see Daddy often, but we spoke on the phone occasionally because he was an extremely busy man, running 4 businesses, so the phone worked for me.

The last time I saw Daddy was on December 6th. My stepmother called at me at 6am to say that my father's business on was the news and the store was engulfed in flames. This business which my Dad started in 1976, was his baby had burned to the ground. It was the first time I ever saw my father with tears in his eyes. But everyone who knew him said, Freddie would be back, bigger and stronger and would build another business, like nothing the community had ever seen. Daddy had the midas touch. He was successful in everything, life and business. The next day, business was as usual, Daddy had the lot cleared and the planning for the new business started. The community couldn't wait to see what Freddie would do next......

It all changed on February 25th, when Daddy didn't show up for work. My brother said it was 10:00am and no one had heard from Daddy which was very unusual. He'd call every morning to make sure everyone was at work on time. They sent someone to his house and Daddy was in the bed. He had died, in his sleep. No time for good-byes, just gone. The "entire" community was devastated. Everyone knew that he was now a health enthusiast. What had happened, Freddie had never, ever been sick in his life, nor had he ever missed a day of work, never had a vacation. Clogged arteries, narrowing over the years was the cause. The coroner said, he probably didn't even know he had coronary disease, but by becoming a vegetarian 11 years ago, he added years to his life.

The highlight is that my mother died when I was 4 years old, in 1968. She was only 31 years old. Her birthday was February 25th. Daddy, died on her birthday! I told my sister, Mommy came back for Daddy, which was her birthday present to herself! They were back together after more than 30 years.

I may have to wear a nametag, when my parents await me at the Pearly Gates, because they may not recognize me! I'm aiming for a big 100+ lost.

We have to do things when we are mentally ready, not when someone tells or wants us to be ready. It is now our time and it will happen....in due course. We will reach our goal, one POUND at a time, and enjoy life along the way!

Have a blessed day. I thank you so much for taking time to read my story. Drink your water, eat those fruits and vegetables. Be enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own, and remember to wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile. Victory!
