AKE A TOUR AROUND OUR CHURCH:
The font is to be found directly inside the main door on the left hand side. It is perpendicular in style with Tudor style embellishments and dates from the 14th century
The window by the pulpit depicts St Barnabas.
In this portrayal he is holding an olive branch to show his role as peacemker and a copy of St Matthews gospel. Written around his halo is “Son of Consolation” which is the translation of his baptismal name.
The brass chandelier in the chancel was given to the church in 1758 by Edward Foulkes. Near the top of the chandelier is a representation of a flaming sun, lower down a `whirling mass’ representing the chaos before God created the world, with below that a dove with an olive branch, the traditional sign of God’s peace and mercy. The chandelier has twelve branches representing the twelve apostles taking the light out into the world represented by a large orb beneath.
The east window and the window in the Vestry both date back to the 15th century and were thought to have been brought here from Basingwerk Abbey after the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII in 1536.
There are many more features of interest for the visitor to see in this beautiful ancient church parish church.
