SPLINTER BIDS

Your partner has shown a suit with his last bid which:-

1. You have sufficient points (including shape) to be in game.
2. You have GOOD 4 -card support.
3. You have a singleton in an outside suit.

How do you tell him the good news?

BY jumping to a level……ONE HIGHER THAN A JUMP BID in the suit with a singleton. This the key phrase. Say to yourself what is a jump bid? SOOOOOOOOOOO bid 1 level higher.

3 ♠ …….. is a splinter agreeing Hearts.(2♠  is a jump)

or 1 ♥……4♣…..is a splinter agreeing Hearts (3♣ is a jump).

Or 1♣…1♦

   3 ♥    is a splinter agreeing Diamonds ( 2♥ would be a jump).

If opener (of the agreed suit) is interested in a slam, and has at least 11 points OUTSIDE the suit that is splintered, then he will start a cue bidding sequence. This is done by bidding the first available first round control. If he is not interested, he will sign off in 4 of the agreed Major.
