McCARTNEY CONVENTION

Remember Paul McCartneys song "When I’m 64" ? The convention is named after him.

Sometimes..not very often….you hear the opposition bid 2 suits....and your holding in the other 2 suits is exactly 6/4.

 To show the other 2 suits, cue bid one or the other of the opponents 2 suits.

 Cue bidding the lower ranking suit shows the lower ranking of the unbid suit to be the 6- carder.

1♣…..P....1♦………..(2♣ show 6 hearts and 4 spades)

                                (2♦ shows 6 spades and 4 hearts)

RESPONSES

2NT shows strong raise of unbid minor (or lower ranking if no minor)

                   OTHER BIDS TO SHOW SHAPE

Once you have heard opponents bid 2 suits a very useful addition to this system is as follows

1NT (or 2NT) shows equal length ___at least 5/5

DOUBLE…… MAY only be 4/4 or 5/4 BUT has points.

Use 2NT or impossible bid to show good raises
