BILLY'S DEFENCE TO WEAK NT

This, in my opinion is the best defence to a weak NT. It was invented by that great American player Billy Miller. The big feature of the convention is having the ability to double knowing that one of the partnership has at least four of the trump suit

Double with all hands 14+points.

If next hand passes OR redoubles :-

1.As responder to the double with less than 6 points …..bid a suit

or

2. With 6 points or more ..PASS.( both bids alertable)

If opponents are doubled ….then must not let them play below 2 spades, undoubled.

If they run ……double for penalty.

To double MUST have 4 trumps, and MUST lead a trump .

If they run, first partner to double is t/out DENYING 4 trumps

If neither partner has 4 trumps..then bid up the line.

If they now run to another suit…….then all doubles are now penalty

Use other conventional bids like Landy, Astro, Cappalletti for hands UNDER  14 points.
