Doubles over weak bids

Your right hand opponent opens with a weak 2 bid or a weak 3 bid.

You are in what is known as the direct seat, being the first to speak over this bid.

In order to double for a take-out your hand MUST be strong, with at least 14 points. With less than this just pass.

Now put yourself in the seat where your LHO has opened weak. This has been followed by 2 passes.

You are now in the balancing seat. As is normal in this position, you "borrow a King" in order to protect your partner who passed with an intermediate hand.

With all balanced hands in the range 9 to 13 points you should double. Your partner will take into account that you are protecting, and should not expect more from you.

As with all disciplined bidding, try to follow this advice. You will get more good results than bad.
