The club's aims are:
To encourage a greater interest in Pedigree and Non-Pedigree cats
To foster a better appreciation of cats in general
To give members guidance regarding the breeding and welfare of cats
To hold and support shows to further these aims
The club is affiliated to the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy and is represented by its delegate at meetings of the Council
The club's all breed championship show is held on the first Saturday in March, and is open to both pedigree and non-pedigree cats, kittens and neuters.
The club's Welfare Officer acts a co-ordinator with both local and specialist breed rescue organisations, though we ourselves do not have facilities for fostering and re-homing.

Proposed new Breed Number System
A new Breed Number System is being proposed using EMS Codes as a replacement for the existing GCCF Breed Numbering System. The EMS System uses a combination of letters and numbers to describe the breed. Used by FIFE the EMS System has widespread adoption throughout many parts of the world. These codes will be reviewed at the June Meeting of the GCCF Council.
