As you all know by now I’m Nicola and took over as Officer in Charge of the Band last year having served 17 years as a Haverette. It was a difficult choice as I had my daughter Millie in Nov 2002 but having a supportive partner, family and 30 ready made baby sitters has made it easier.

After a tremendous finish to 2003 with the girl’s coming 3rd at the Nationals I couldn’t have asked any more of them especially after we had a year off from competing in 2002, it was great to see them back in high spirits and being very proud of themselves.

As most of you are aware TYMBA decided to re-structure the classes which resulted in us being relegated to the Championship class, this was due to too many bands in the National class which was meant to be the “Elite Class”. They took the decision to calculate all the bands results over the previous 2 years and the bands with the lowest scores were relegated, unfortunately this meant we were automatically relegated due to not competing for one year. At first we were disappointed but after speaking to Kerry (my right hand man!), the Officers, NCO’s and band girls it was agreed that it possibly wasn’t such a bad thing as we have a much smaller and younger band and it will give them more to work towards to get back into the National class.

Unfortunately last year our founder and President Mrs Smith had to move due to ill health and 35 years worth of Band uniforms/instruments and memorabilia had to go into storage. We have also partially lost our Vice President Mrs Weston who has finally moved to Basildon and due to travelling she is unable to come to band regularly, they are both sadly missed but they can be re-assured that the Band is in good hands and you still have a lot to be proud of.

I would like to thank Kerry, Officers, NCOs and band girls for all their effort and hard work this year and also the committee for their continued fund raising and support. A special thanks for Steve and Jan who have both stepped down from the Committee as Chairman and Secretary. And Welcome to Jeff as Chairman and Gill Hostler as Social Secretary, Teresa has now taken over as Secretary and Chris is continuing as Treasurer.

I thank you all for the continued support of the Haverettes

New Recruits

The Band AGM was held on 3rd June and it saw our long standing Chairman Steve Hathorn and Secretary Jan Chatfield resign. Steve took an active part in fundraising as well as being Chairman and will be remembered for the successful 5 a side tournaments. Jan also was active in fundraising and she will be remembered as the 'sweet lady!'. We would also like to thank Simone for her background work as Steve's assistant!! as well as being Press Officer. No doubt we will still see them at our fundraising events but we take this opportunity to thank them for their involvement
