**- Hip scores in this country are taken from each hip with a maximum socore of 53 for each side, meaning her score is 12 out of a possible 106.  Hip joints as with all other joints do naturally deteriate with old age in any animal, so the older a dog the more likely a higher score.
Since 1983 only 107 Dalmatians have had their hip scores registered with the KC / BVA scheme in this country.
The average of these results are ranging from 0 - 39 with the breed average of ten.  ( to say the entry for Crufts 2005 is 216 dalmatians this is a very very very small percentage to say the least and cannot possible show the true picture !!! ) - Whats more once you receive your results you can choose weather they get sent off to the Kc and registered or not - therefore bad results are often disregarded and never oficially recorded.  Saying this 20 is more than an acceptable score, and each case will be looked at regarding the dogs age and any trauma that may have occured during its life too.  Generally speaking in the Uk the scores are much more through than in some countries which use an alphabetical scale with A being the best result.

Elbow scores are measured on a scale of 0 - 3 on each side, with the score being the highest present.  0 being free and the best possible score, 3 being Elbow Displasia is present.

In this country Hip and Elbow displasia are not classed as a breed trait or fault and therefore are often untested for, unlike in other countries.
We think for a working road dog hip and elbow scores are important for the good health of the dog and we strive to keep testing for such to ensure good healthy structure of joints.

We far from think testing for anything and everything is necessary in dogs, and do beleive that in most cases the natural approach is best.  We also fully beleive that to enable us to do this we have to ensure structure and health are optimum in our dogs, and having results from any test is far far better than having none at all.  It is far better to be able to make informed descisions and choices from facts than have a stab in the dark with guess work, and have to fix problems later down the line.   That is why we choose to have our dogs tested for things we feel are important to the health and general welfare of the breed and are happy to openly discuss their results, for what can hopefully be for the good of the future of the breed.
