The band formed in 1998, with Sapsead, Bilsborough, Buxton & Buxton getting together during drunken late night rehearsals at a Glastonbury social club. Obscure Counting Crows covers gave way to jamming original compositions. 1999 saw the band, under the name "Mark 4", perform 56 gigs across the South West of England and record their first originals album, Monumental. During the 56th gig, at Heroes Night Club in Glastonbury, Stin suggested the band would benefit from the talents of a keyboard player, so 4 became 5. This addition rendered the name Mark 4 redundant, and after much soul searching "Cable Co" became the preferred choice.
From 2000 onwards the band gigged furiously at venues near and far, from a lorry on an air base to the Glastonbury Festival. The band broadcast their message of hope and tolerance until the fateful day that bassist Shaun decided to travel the world with his new wife. His energy and vitality would be sorely missed but his ability to nearly get us into massive fights with adhoc members of the audience would not.
Step forward local bassist Jonny Alexander, who was already performing the role of sound engineer for the band. Jon seamlessly morphed into the role, gigging furiously, bringing new bass styles and playing on the second studio album "Same Mistakes". He rode the rollercoaster that is Cable Co until the beginning of 2008, at which point he decided the rock n roll dream wasn't for him.
So, in a Bill & Ted stylee, original bassist Shaun Buxton, freshly returned from his world travelling odyssey, stepped up to the plate and resumed bassing duties, a strange calm having descended over him. Yeah right.
Now, with 2010 staring us in the face, we roll on with renewed vigour. A new originals album is in progress, with early results very promising.
So there you have it. A genuine rock band, an antidote to the Xfactor generation where music is judged against the values of instant appeal and appearance. This is Cable Co.
