Teignmouth Community Choir was originally formed in 2004 as part of the Teign Lifetime Project. This was a community arts and education project exploring the science of life and evolution. The project involved some thirteen local schools and it kicked off with 3 concerts at Dawlish Leisure Centre featuring a choir of over 400 singers (including the 50-strong Community Choir) in July 2004. The project continued until July 2005 with further concerts, arts & songwriting workshops and public science lectures.
Following the completion of the project, members were keen to keep the choir going into the future. Their Musical Director and resident composer, David Haines shared their enthusiasm, so together they applied for funding to the lottery-backed Awards for All scheme. This application was successful and the choir now has funding to keep going at least until the end of 2006 and - we hope - for much longer.
