THE NATIONAL FOREST LINE
The National Forest Line, also called the Ivanhoe Line runs from Leicester to Burton and serves Braunstone, Leicester Forest, Kirby Muxloe, Desford, Coalville, and Ashby. Reopening the line has wide support from people in all three counties, as well as the East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA). The Tories at Leicester County Council have killed off the plan. David Taylor, Labour MP for North West Leicestershire worked hard to make this outstanding plan a reality. The success of the Ivanhoe Line, serving Barrow, Sileby & Syston are testimony to desire by the public to have realistic alternatives to the car. The Ivanhoe Line was fully supported by Charnwood Brough Council when it was run by Labour. CALLS TO RE-OPEN OLD TRAIN LINE IN COALVILLE
Published on 10/07/2007 Oak 107 10 July 2007
THE OLD National Forest Train line between Coalville and Leicester could be reopened to ease congestion on the roads.
It's being proposed by the Charnwood Labour Party who want to stop plans to widen the M1 in the county. They say using the old train route will be a more cost effective way of cutting traffic. They also believe it will create more jobs and bring further investment to the area.
