Protaras is in the tourist resort of Paralimini, in the south east of Cyprus. Its typical of a Greek village or small town with its golden beaches reputed to be one of the finest on the island.
There are many bars and tavernas to choose from in and around Pernera and Protaras. At night Protaras is a cocophony of sound as each disco-bar tries to outcompete its nieghbours as they vie for business.
Boat trips run along the coast from Protaras, one way to cape Greco, the other way to view from offshore the ghost town of Famagusta, now under illegal Turkish milatary occupation.
Protaras is located aproximately half way between Ayia Napa and Paralimini, half hour drive from Larnaca International Airport. A regular local bus service runs from Paralimini to Ayia Napa via Protaras, in addition there is a bus service which runs from Protaras to Waterworld water-park reputed to be the largest water-park in Europe (20 acres approx). |
