Coyotes chased the above deer over the hill towards us. The deer circled around behind us and coyotes departed, deer 1 coyotes 0. Coyotes give us a wide birth. We haven't met the new "Bully On the Block" reintroduced Canadian Gray Wolf. That could be a bit troublesome.
Sunny mountain morning . Redtail hawks & mule deer soaking up the rays.

CRITTERS of LUCKY PEAK My Airedale Terriers and I have been wandering the mountains north and east of Boise for nearly 30 years. Buzz Lightyear is my current Walkabout Buddy. Buzz has been trained his whole life to be in close proxcimity of big game without alarming or pursuing. A short working leash is used for training and is always attached to my belt. Off leash he is controled by hand signals and whistles, no mistakes are allowed! He is very good. Silence is golden, Buzz NEVER BARKS, STALKS or PURSUES and covers a 20 yd radius around me, never released on his own. During severe weather (serious cold or deep snow) we either stay off the mountain or limit our travels to numbered tracks/trails. Buzz also does well at alerting me to nasty critters (bear, mountian lion or what ever) on these occasions we are immediatly leashed together & "exit stage left". By not acting like preditors, mule deer & elk, don't waste energy fleeing in total panick. Usually they amble off or don't even bother to move at all as we move through. If they are crossing our intended path they are allowed to go first. We make every effort to keep our distance & do no harm.
Camera equipment includes Canon EOS D30 & Rebel XTi with an assortment of wide angle zooms & telephoto lenses including my favorite Canon EF 70 -300mm IS USM
