This is the Dutch Iris 'Franz Hal' which enjoys our area and it has not dwindled away as they sometimes can do .It blooms in late May, usually after the 25th. The latest date for blooming was June 6th. This year we had a rainy spring as you can tell by these two photographs.
This Iceland Poppy has been in this garden in the same spot for about 25 years. It always reseeds but manages to stay in its own area. The yellow color gets the public attention every year.
The Floribunda Rose 'Pleasure' has been in the garden since 1990. Always a good blooming rose, with very nice flowers and foliage.
We lost a very large Rose of Sharon....a nice double pink. It had been planted in the back garden for years and was about 15 feet tall. After Ken had cut it down, we hollowed the center of the stump and planted sedium. We thought we would take the stump out later in the fall or next spring. This was our fall show that we did not expect that came up on the remaining trunk. Sometimes a surprise gift from nature is the best kind of gift.
This pink peony enjoyed our wet spring and bloomed very well.
'Star' our giant schnauzer has a favorite spot to watch for the squirrels. She rests her head and sits in total silence. Her greatest joy is chasing them down the fence line. I do not know what she would do with one if she ever caught it. We have attempted to teach her to stay on the paths. She is pretty good about it most of the time. But if there are more than one on the fence highway it is more than she can stand and the rules fly right out of her mind. We gave up in one area and lined the path with large rocks and gave her the corner of the fence line where she goes and waits for hours to see one make the mistake of running her fence line..
'Ariadne' is Dr. Chris North's hybrid from Lilium lankongense x 'Maxwell.' and is also new to our garden this year. I think we will enjoy having this one . |
Sometimes when you are doing photography you will find that a side view is nice. And a change from the frontal type of photo. Give it a try on your next flower photography. I will be interested in seeing what you get.
We use clematis climbing up pillars of rod iron that were made for us by Keith Chadwick. They always put up a nice vertical show. 'Clematis 'Ville De Lyon' is on the south facing wall of our garage and blooms well.
Another fine blooming Rose Grandiflora 'Love' has been here even longer. Last winter was hard on it but it rallied and put on another good bloom season.
This shows the side shot of how it attached itself to the trunk of the Rose Of Sharon.
It was nice to see bees more active this spring. We had noticed a decline and this was a good sign.
New to this garden this spring is the Epimedium 'Amber Queen' and 'Domino' from Seabright Garden in Oregon. I also found one locally called 'Fire Dragon' which I also added. I am looking forward to seeing them bloom again this spring. If they can take our weather I am looking forward to adding more to the shady spots of the garden.
This is a seedling from the Lilium Society 19-141 which is suppose to be I. davidii var willmottiae and it was open polinated. I. davidii is a native of Sichuan and Yunnan. It blooms from July to August. Since I started this one from seed I am hoping that it improves every year. |
