We believe that puppies (of any breed) should be bred for temperament first and foremost, this should be reflected throughout the puppies pedigree, as far back as possible, bad temperament will always re appear somewhere in the future, so a solid foundation is a necessity!
We also believe that health is of primary importance too, and strive to produce healthy puppies from healthy parents with correct conformation.
We believe that puppies should be reared in the house, where they can interact with the family from a very young age and get used to the daily chaos of a busy household.
Canine behavioral research and practical experience have established beyond doubt that the more positive human contact a puppy has the better. His capacity to relate positively to people is directly connected to the amount and quality of human interactions. Dogs are highly social creatures that bond strongly and suffer from isolation. That is a fact.
We also believe that puppies should NOT leave their mum before 7 weeks. The dam and littermates contribute the primary socialization necessary to establish what it means to be a dog. Pack life has its rules, hierarchies, and playful interludes, and this is taught to the puppy while still with his mum and littermates. The dam may not be doing much in the way of cleaning or feeding past 6 weeks but the lessons she is teaching are very valuable indeed.
Early in a puppy's life human presence, touch, cuddling, speech, and odour help establish his sense of security with people. Simply put, our voice is gentle, our touch caressing. If a pup has a nourishing post-natal life followed by continued human socialization and careful introduction to new situations, the outcome is a highly trainable young pup when he goes to live with his new family.
We believe that every pup should be given the best possible start in life, the best diet, veterinary care available to them and a strict worming, vaccination, and socialisation regime. We provide a comprehensive advice package put together over the years so that this (and many other things) can continue throughout the pup's new life in his new home.
We believe that ALL Dalmatian puppies should be BAER hearing tested.
We also believe that ALL Dalmatians should be 'pets' first and foremost, if they go on to be successfull in the Show Ring, or in Agility, Obedience, Flyball or whatever, then that is always an added bonus, a Dalmatian should be a member of your family and treated and loved as such. Because of this we try to ensure that the new home is right for the puppy, as much as the puppy is right for the new home. Owning (or being owned by) a puppy is not a 'right' and we have in the past had to turn people down whose circumstances have not been right for a puppy.
We believe that as the breeder of the puppy we share a responsibility for that puppy for the rest of his life. We try to initiate a strong relationship between ourselves and the puppy's new family and we always give a lifetime promise of advice and assistance and are here whatever time of day or night that he may need us, 'he might be your puppy now, but he will always be one of our babies!' -
because we care!
Please do your homework before deciding on a dalmatian puppy, they are certainly not the easiest of breeds. Read about the breed, including our 'About the Breed' page, try and visit a reputable breeder to get an idea about the size and activity levels of the breed and also perhaps go to a couple of dog shows where you will find many breeders and enthusiasts all willing to help and advise.
