Because there is no GP or pharmacy in the area the Healthy Living Initiative in partnership with Carlisle and District Primary Care Trust now has its own Health Centre for local people, based at 15 Botcherby Avenue.  Tel 01228 514235.
 
Health Awareness
Helen Johnstone is our Nurse Practitioner who holds a regular clinic:  Monday to Friday from 10am to 12 noon - no appointment necessary.  Helen is able to prescribe for a limited range of conditions and acts as first contact nurse on behalf of local GPs.
 
Improving Access to Services
Helen works closely with other health workers, providing services for residents of all ages in areas including:  maternity, family planning, flu vaccinations, services for the elderly. and counselling.
 
Drug and Alcohol Awareness
Jen Marrs is our Community Youth Development Co-ordinator from Cumbria Alcohol and Drug Advisory Services.  Jen is available at the Centre all day Mondays and in the morning on Thursdays, where she will provide one to one counselling and help with anything relating to drug and alcohol issues.
 
Advice and Information
Cordelia Deady is our Outreach Worker from the Citizens Advice Bureau who provides free, confidential, impartial advice on a wide range of issues including benfits, debt, housing, employment, consumer and family problems.Cordelia holds advice sesions at the Centre Tuesdays and Fridays between 11.00am and 2.00pm.
