Ione Bartlett
Graveside services for Ione "Aunt Dan" Bartlett, 100 years 11 months and 2 days, of Bartlett were held 10 AM Tuesday March 15 in the Bartlett City Cemetery with Rev Lianne Turner officiating. She died Saturday March 12, 2005 in a Bartlett nursing home. Ione Bartlett was born April 10, 1904 in Bartlett to R H and Nancy (Durant) Bartlett. A lifetime resident of Bartlett, she was affectionately known as "Aunt Dan" to everyone, young and old. Miss Bartlett was the last surviving member of a pioneer family who, with the help of her dad’s brother, Captain John Bartlett, founded the community of Bartlett, Texas. She was a graduate of Bartlett High School and the Woman’s University in Denton. She taught school in Brenham for several years before returning to the Bartlett farm and helping to care for her aging parents. Miss Bartlett never married. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Ray Bartlett, DD "Bill" Bartlett, and Lynn H Bartlett; 3 sisters, Nell Knight, Clara Moldenhour, and Mary Bartlett; a nephew Franklin Knight; and a niece, Ilyn Bartlett Kaspar. Survivors include her nephews Jake Moldenhour of Taylor, Don Moldenhour of Georgetwon, and Foy Moldenhour of Taylor; nieces Katy Tidwell of Granger and Barbara Burns of Bartlett. Goodnight Funeral Home was in charge.
Ruth Adele Beasley
Graveside services for Ruth Adele Beasley, 87, of Holland were held Thurs Dec 15 in Holland Cemetery. A memorial service followed at First United Methodist Church in Holland. Ruth Adele Beasley was born Dec 16, 1917 in Smackover, Arkansas to Richard and Annie Rolan Butterfield. She lived in the Holland area since 1948. She married R.T. McFerrin, who preceded her in death in 1953. She married Joe Beasley, who preceded her in death in 1977. Mrs Beasley was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church in Holland. Survivors include her five daughters, Betty Jett of Holland, Naomi Van Noy of Cody, Wyoming, Edith Lambert of Moody, Sandra Kohring of Holland, and Kathryn Carter of Wheatland, Pennsylvania; three sons, Bob McFerrin of Rosebud, Lewis McFerrin of Temple, and R.T. McFerrin of Boerne; two sisters, Ruby Talbert of Georgetown and Edna Voldan of Corpus Christi; 21 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home of Rosebud was in charge.
Richard Bennight
Services for Richard "Deek" Bennight, 63, of Holland were held Friday July 1 at Goodnight Funeral Home in Bartlett with Rev Randy Holtzclaw officiating. Burial was in Holland Cemetery. He died Tuesday June 28 at his home. Richard Bennight was born May 25, 1942 in Cameron to John Bennight and Annie Hewer. He was a lifetime resident of Holland was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Catherine Mills and Elnora Bennight. Survivors include two brothers, John Henry Bennight of Cuero, and Lewis Bennight of Sealy; six sisters, Kay Hill of Holland, Lilly Hill of Holland, Joyce Burzloff of Sierra Vista, Arizona, Ruby Meadows of Appomattox, Virginia, Katie Matlock of Boise, Idaho, and Beverly Simpson of Columbus. John Gordon Brock
Celebration of Life services for John Gordon Brock, 83, of Bartlett were held Wed Jan 19 at Providence Funeral Chapel in Taylor with Rev David Cox officiating. Burial was in Bartlett City Cemetery. He died Monday Jan 17 in a local hospital. John Gordon Brock was born in Bartlett on July 25, 1921 to Hubert & Lelia (Hunt) Brock. He served in the US Army during World War II, from 1942 to 1945, was in the 96th Infantry Division in the Philippines. John was a member of Major General J L Bradley’s 96th "Dead Eye" Division. He was awarded a Bronze Star for Heroism during the Leyte Campaign and was discharged with honors as Tech Sergeant. After the miliatry, John became a rancher and hauled cattle for the public, as well as working the cattle sales. He married Dora Frances Bell Shelton on Oct 12, 1946. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Lynn, James, and W A Brock. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Dora Brock of Bartlett; three sons, Donald Shelton of Cameron, Ronald Shelton of Cameron, and Rickey Brock of San Antonio; one daughter, Margie Billingsley of Carrollton; two sister, Bobbie Nell Ickes of Georgetown, and Irene Stephens of Harker Heights; four grandsons; three granddaughters; and 14 great-grandchildren. Walter F Bunte
Services for Walter F Bunte, 82, of Temple and formerly of Bartlett were held Tuesday Oct 11 at Sheffield Funeral Home in Temple. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery in Granger. Mr Bunte died Friday Oct 7 in a Temple hospital. He was born in Bell County to Wesley and Freida Bunte. He served in the US Army and was stationed in the Philippines in World War II. Survivors are his wife, Elizabeth Bunte of Temple; two daughters, Rhonda Bunte of Dallas and Brenda Mcikley of Temple; one brother, Egon Bunte of Troy; and one sister, Adeline Pacha of Bartlett.
Bennett Frank Cofield
Services for Bennett Frank Cofield, 94, of Temple and formerly of the Bartlett-Schwertner communities will be at 11 AM Monday Jan 24 in Holland Cemetery with Rev Don McNeely officiating. Mr Cofield died Friday Jan 21 at a local nursing home. Bennett Frank Cofield was born in Prairie Dell to Wesley & Annie (Ayres) Cofield, who migrated from Alabama around the turn of the century. He was the youngest of 11 children. He was a farmer in the surrounding communities. In 1989 he moved to Bartlett where he resided until 2000. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple.
Tina Jeanet Crews
Services for Tina Jeanet Crews, 33, of Bartlett will be at 2 PM Sunday Jan 30 at Goodnight Funeral Home in Bartlett with Rev Ron Winsman officiating. She died Wed Jan 26. Mrs Crews was born in Yamhill County, Oregon to Gary Wayne White & Ira Jeanettie Walker White. She lived in Bartlett for 12 years. She was a security officer for 3 years. She married Kevin Crews on July 25, 1993. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bartlett. Survivors are her husband of Bartlett; one son, Ted Edward Tucker of Bartlett; one daughter, Michelle Marrie Tucker of Bartlett; her mother of Oregon; one brother, Christopher R. P. Mills of Georgia; and three sisters, Juanita Robert Davis of Davilla, Evelyn Irene Marker of Florida, and Joyce Jeanette Hall of Tuscon.

Graveside services for Dorothy Dawn DePino, 86, of Bartlett were held Sept 2 at Val Verde Cemetery with Rev Daniel Williams officiating. She died Wed Aug 31 in a Bartlett nursing home. Dorothy DePino was born June 13, 1919 in Holland to John and Ida (Whittington) Townsend. She lived in Bartlett for three years. A former telephone operator, she was a member of Quinnipiac Baptist Church in New Haven, Connecticut. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank DePino in 1997; a son, Kenneth Ray Brister; 6 sisters and 5 brothers. Survivors include a niece, Deborah Lehmann and a godchild, Carol Denuzzo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Donalson; her parents, Ivy & Millie Hunt; a sister, Pearl Pritchard; a niece, Linda Pritchard; and her sister, Imogene Williams. Survivors include her children, Edward Donalson, James Donalson and Norman Donalson; her sisters, Janie Simmons and Melba Jones; her brother, Ivy Dean; her brother-in-law Charles Donalson; 7 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
Anna Muehlhause Friedrich
Services for Anna Muehlhause Friedrich, 97, of Bartlett were held at 11 AM Saturday October 29 at St John Lutheran Church in Bartlett with Rev. Al Holck officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. She died Wed Oct 26, 2005. Anna Muehlhause Friedrich was born March 12, 1908 in Bartlett to Gerhardt and Wilhelmine (Lueck) Muehlhause. She married Alvin Friedrich on June 20, 1928. She was preceded in death by her husband on Oct 19, 1969; her parents; and a brother, Benjamin.Survivors include her daughter, Joann Zieschang of Jonestown; a grandson, Wayne Zieschang; two granddaughters, Debbie Bruntz and Reva Anderson; two step-grandchildren, Glenn C Zieschang and Kaye Kisamore; two great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law Leola Muehlhause. Deward D Harmon
Services for Deward D Harmon, 74, of Holland were held April 25 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple with Rev Joe Broadway and Rev Richard Hammonds officiating. A private family burial was held. He died April 21 in an auto/train accident near Holland. Deward D Harmon was born Feb 24, 1931 in Bland, Texas to Joseph & Bertha Weaver Harmon. He graduated from Temple High School in 1951 and served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. After his military service he worked at A&P Grocery in Temple and then for the Ft Hood Commissary, where he retired after 33 years of service. Survivors include one son, Steven Harmon of Belton; four brothers, Ed Harmon of Holland, Lynn Harmon, Joe Harmon, and Roy Harmon all of Moffat; five sisters, Esprence Crocker and Loleta Wolbrueck of Moffat, Vivian Elliott of Temple, Martha Tomme of Eddy, and Melinda Murray of Oenaville.
Dorothy Lucille Houston
Graveside services for Dorothy Lucille Houston, 84, of Little River-Academy were held Saturday December 17 at Holland Cemetery with Rev Brent Boatright of First Baptist Church in Academy officiating. She died Wed Dec 14 in Belton. Dorothy Lucille Houston was born July 11, 1921 in Joe Lee Community to Charles Raymond Sessom and Velma Elizabeth Wood Sessom. She lived in Holland all her life and was a homemaker. Mrs Houston was a nurse's aide and was a member of First Baptist Church of Holland. She married George Lester Houston on July 19, 1941. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, George Houston; and two sons, George Wayne Houston and Charles T Houston. Survivors include 3 daughters, Linda Kelso of Heidenheimer, Janet Nelson of Little River- Academy, and Sandra Page of Landrum, South Carolina; two sons, Roger Houston of Holland, and Carrol Houston of Holland; 3 sisters, Mary Foster of Republic, Missouri, Laverne White of New Port Richey, Florida, and Wanda Wimmer of Etowah, North Carolina; two brothers, Charles "Sonny" Sessom of Bixby, Oklahoma and Bill "Mickey" Sessom of Savoy; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Roger Alan Hill
Roger Alan "Hollywood" Hill, 50, of Bartlett, died Friday November 4 in a Temple hospital. Services were held Nov 7 at Goodnight Funeral Home in Bartlett with Rev Robert Solorio and Rev Domingo Aguillon officiating. Burial was in Bartlett City Cemetery. Roger Alan Hill was born on Aug 21, 1955 in Bartlett to Roy H and Helen Dillard Hill. He was an automotive salesman for 30 years and was a member of Full Gospel Holiness church in Bartlett. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Roy (Mike) Hill and Steve Hill. Survivors include two sons, Paul DeSantis of Austin and Giuliano DeSantis of Copperas Cove; two daughters, Alexis Skye Hill of Chico California, and Marcella Fuentes of Austin; three sisters, Samye Hill of Del Valle, Debbie Garcia of Bartlett, and Sharon Aguallo of Belton; and four grandchildren.
Alice L (Jean) House<
Services for Alice L (Jean) House, 90, of Bartlett were held Friday April 8 at Goodnight Funeral Home Chapel in Bartlett with Rev Lianne Turner officiating. Burial followed in Bartlett City Cemetery. She died April 5 in a Temple hospital. Alice L House was born in Brown County, Texas on Jan 18, 1915, the daughter of Nannie (Bryant) and James Evans. On Dec 12, 1931, she married Jefferson Clyde House. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Billy Clyde House; two sisters; and four brothers. Survivors include her daughters, Polly Neitsch of Granger and Shirley Meoller of Bartlett; 9 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Goodnight Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Frank Jarolik
Funeral services for Frank Jerry Jarolik, 83, were held July 7 at Goodnight Funeral Home Chapel in Bartlett with Rev Walter Matuse officiating. Burial followed in Holy Cross Cemetery in Granger. He died at his residence July 4. The son of Tom W and Marie (Skrhak) Jarolik, he was born Aug 27, 1921 in Holland. Until his retirement, he had been employed with Belton Sand & Gravel for 35 plus years. He was a member of SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Elizabeth Dusek, Mary Jarolik, and Agnes Jarolik; three brothers, Tom Jarolik, Joe Jarolik, and John Jarolik. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. Goodnight Funeral Home was in charge.
Alice C Jones
Funeral services for Alice C Jones, 97, of Temple were held at 2 PM Monday April 4 at Goodnight Funeral Chapel in Bartlett with Rev Jeff Loudin officiating. Burial followed in Bartlett City Cemetery. She died March 31 in a Temple resthome. Alice C Jones was born in Wellington, Alabama on Sept 2, 1907 to Clarissa (Duggan) and W W Dillard. On Dec 23, 1930, she married Dave L Jones. During World War II, she was employed as a riveter at an aircraft bomber plant in Michigan and ship building plants in New Orleans and California. Mrs Jones was a member of the Rosie the Riveter Association. She retired after teaching school for Bartlett ISD for 29 years. Mrs Jones was a member of First Baptist Church in Bartlett and Taylors Valley Baptist Church in Temple. She was preceded in death by her parnets; her husband; six brothers; four sisters; and one grandson, Gary Jacks. Survivors include two daughters, Betty L Jackson of Academy and Billie J Compton of Shelby, Alabama; four grandchildren, Lisa Marek, Brent Carlson, Brad Carlson, and Craig Carlson; 7 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. David Leonard Kauitzsch
David Leonard Kauitzsch was born Nov. 28, 1964 in Austin, Texas. He passed away on Nov. 4, 2005, at the age of 40 years, 11 months and 7 days. Survivors are wife, Kimberly Ann Kauitzsch of Seguin, Texas; son, Derick Jordon Kauitzsch of College Station, Texas; daughter Shelby Lynn Kauitzsch of Seguin, Texas; parents Lorain and Peggy Kauitzsch of Bartlett, Texas; brother Andrew Kauitzsch of Dripping Springs, Texas; father-in-law and mother-in-law Larry and Marilyn Rosenblad of Georgetown, Texas; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ricky and Michelle Rosenblad of Mansfield, Texas; and several nieces and nephews, uncles and aunts, and many friends. David was married to Kimberly Rosenblad on April 24, 1987 and graduated from Texas Lutheran University in May of 1987. David was an accountant for First Commercial Bank in Seguin, Randolph Brooks of San Antonio and was currently working for Texas Plant Ranch of Seguin. David was a loving and caring husband, father, son, brother and friend. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov 7 at 10:00 AM at Faith Lutheran Church in Seguin and at 3:00 PM at St John Lutheran Church in Bartlett. Burial was in St John Cemetery, Bartlett.

Services for Ella Myrtle Lindemann, 89, of Pflugerville and formerly of Bartlett, were held at 3 PM Saturday Feb 26 at Condra Memorial Chapel in Taylor with Rev Charles Stork officiating. Burial was in Bartlett City Cemetery. She died Tuesday Feb 22, 2005 in Buna, Texas. Ella Myrtle Lindemann was born in the Reeds Lake community on Sept 9, 1915 the daughter of Effie Stella "Dolly" Caldwell and Thomas Tatum. On Oct 27, 1945 she married Bernhardt R Lindemann. She had been employed as a nurses’ aide until her retirement. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Survivors include three daughters, Stella Brown of Buna, Elizabeth Schmidt of LaPorte, and Martha Richardson of Brownwood; two sons, Bernhardt Thomas Lindemann of Manor and Robert Eugene Lindemann of Pflugerville; 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Condra Funeral Home of Taylor was in charge.

Gloria Jean Moseley was born in El Paso to Leonard and Dorothy Ponder Garringer. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Ernest Dean Moseley of Davilla; a son, Ernest Dean Moseley II; two daughters, Tonya Annette Klovanish, and Tamara Shea Thompson; her mother; two brothers, Gary Garringer and Donald Garringer; and a sister, Diana Garringer. Services for Joe T None, 62, of Bartlett were held at 1 PM Saturday Nov 5 at Holy Temple Church of God in Christ in Bartlett with Superintendent Shelton Rhodes officiating. Burial was in Bartlett City Cemetery. He died Monday Oct 31. Joe T None was born in Welder. He worked as a forklift operator at a warehouse at Rockwool and the Belton Housing Authority. He was a member of Belton Church of God in Christ. Survivors include his wife, Dell None of Killeen; a son, Joe T None Jr of Killeen; a daughter, Bobbie None of Holland; three sisters, Georgia Mayse, Bobbie Johnson, and Dorothy Starling, all of Bartlett; and 6 grandchildren. W H Littles and Son Mortuary of Temple was in charge of arrangements.
Edward Louis Pavelka
Edward Louis (Ed) Pavelka Jr, age 66, of Friendswood passed away on Aug 26, 2005. He was born in Houston on June 17, 1939 to Edward Louis Sr and Emma Franks Pavelka. He and his family moved to Holland where he graduated from Holland High School in 1957. Ed served 8 years in the National Guard with 10 months of active duty during the Cuban missle crisis. After graduating from the University of Texas in 1964, Ed enjoyed a 33 year career at Johnson Space Center. Ed and Joyce Holcomb were married on July 21, 1959. They moved to Friendswood upon his graduation from UT and have made their home there for the past 40 years. He is survived by his wife; son Bruce Pavelka; daughter Diana Harkness; grandchildren Joshua, Joel and Emily Pavelka and Kevin and Tiffany Harkness; a sister Sandra Gibbs; nephew Miles Gibbs. Services were held Aug 27 at First Baptist Church in Friendswood.
Jewell Philpot
Jewell Philpot, 92, of Bartlett, died Thurs Jan 27 in a Belton nursing home. Services were Sat Jan 29 at Belfalls Cemetery with Rev George Mahan officiating. Sheffield Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Ms Philpot was born in Prairie Dell & lived in the Holland & Bartlett areas most of her life. She married Robert George Philpot in 1948. She was a housewife, and a Baptist. Her husband preceded her in death Jan 20, 1984, followed by a daughter, Lillie Moore on Dec 6, 2004. Survivors are 5 daughters, Mary Frances Kesner of Belfalls, Margaret Ann Thornton of Memphis, Betty Jo May of Olive Branch, Mississippi, Cynthia Pacha of Vilas; 21 grandchildren; and 48 great-grandchildren.

Services for Angeline A Pospisil, 86, of Bartlett were Friday Dec 30, 2005 at Goodnight Funeral Chapel in Bartlett. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery in Granger. She died Wed Dec 28 at her home. Angeline A Pospisil was born March 5, 1919 in Holland to Jacob Jarolik and Frances Machala Jarolik. She married Johnnie Frank Pospisil, who preceded her in death on Sept 1, 1998. Mrs Pospisil was employed in food service at Veterans Administration Hospital in Temple for 23 years, and had resided in Bartlett all her life. She was a member of SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Survivors include her son Johnnie Pospisil of Bartlett; one sister Tillie Barabas of Bartlett, and numerous nieces and nephews.
James E Price
A memorial service for James E Price, 67, of Clear Lake and formerly of Holland was held April 11 in League City Texas. He died April 8 in Galveston. James E Price was born in Rogers on Aug 18, 1937. He attended Rogers High School and Temple Junior College. He married Mary Beth Decker on Oct 8, 1959. Survivors include his wife, a daughter Gina Vickers of League City, son Jamie Price of Mesquite, and brother W D "Blue" Price of Texas City. Services for Kenneth Wayne Dickey, 52, of Holland were held April 25 at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton with Rev Dan Gage officiating. Burial followed in North Belton Cemetery. He died April 21 in a Temple hospital. Kenneth Wayne Dickey was born Aug 31, 1952 in Greenville, Ohio to Beatrice Irene (Funk) and William George Dickey. He married Ruby Diane Benevidez in Bell County on May 27, 1987. Survivors include his wife, Ruby Diane, of Holland; a son Kenneth Shane Dickey of Holland; three daughters, Angie White of Greenville, Christina Beth Lopez of Harker Heights, and Amanda Irene Dickey of Holland; and one brother, Michael Levi Dickey of Lawton, Oklahoma.
James Matthew Randig
Funeral services for James Matthew Randig, 24, of Bartlett were Tuesday Oct 4 at 10:00 AM at St John Lutheran Church in Bartlett with Rev Michael Swink officiating. Burial followed in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Pflugerville. He died Saturday Oct 1 in a motorcycle accident north of Thorndale. James Matthew Randig was born in Taylor, Texas on Sept 4, 1981, the son of Sharon Randig. He was baptized Oct 10, 1981 at Immanuel Lutheran Church and affirmed his baptism through Lutheran confirmation on Oct 29, 1995 at St John Lutheran Church in Bartlett. James was an active member and servant of the St John congregation. James started kindergarten in Bartlett at the old Grammar School and graduated in 2000 from Bartlett High School where he was active in all sports, one-act play, student council and FFA. He was honored to be selected Most Representative Senior by the faculty. He earned a BA degree in Kinesiology and Art from Texas Lutheran University in 2004. He also play football two years while attending TLU. James was a member of the 1999 Bartlett State Champion football team and worked as a teacher and coach for the Bartlett Independent School District. James was an active member of St John Lutheran Youth. He attended National Youth Gatherings in 1997, 2000, and 2003. James had recently spent a week in Louisiana helping clean up after Hurricane Katrina. Survivors include his mother, Sharon Randig of Bartlett; his grandparents, Edmund and Doreen Randig of Pflugerville; aunts and uncles; and a special friend, Darla Doyle of Bartlett. Funeral services for Joan Joyce Rafay, 67, of Bartlett were held Friday, Sept 30, 2005 at 10 AM at St John Lutheran Church in Bartlett with Rev Michael Swink officiating. Burial was in St John Cemetery. She died Wednesday Sept 28 in a Temple hospital. Joan Joyce Rafay was born in Bell County on Nov 10, 1937 to Edmund and Nola (Powitzky) Spiegelhauer Sr. She was a member of St John Lutheran and the Texas Roadrunners. For more than 30 years, Mrs Rafay was a legal instruments examiner in the Office of General Council for the federal government. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Johnnie Joe Rafay Jr. Survivors include two sons, Randall Rafay of Bartlett and Ronald Rafay of Killeen; grandchildren Alisha, Garrison, Weston, Landon and Audrey Rafay; and a brother, Edmund C Spiegelhauer Jr of Bartlett. Funeral services for Lisa Lynn Rico-Orona, 31, of Austin and formerly of Bartlett, were held at 11 AM Monday Feb 21 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Taylor with Rev Ricardo Aguilar officiating. Burial was in Granger City Cemetery. She died Wed Feb 16 in an Austin hospital. Lisa Rico-Orona was born in Beeville, Texas on March 23, 1973, the daughter of Lucille (Rivera) and Lee Florez. On Oct 4, 1993 she married Paul Orona. She had been employed as a computer technician at First IC Manufacturing. Survivors include her husband, Paul Orona of Round Rock; her parnets, Lee & Lucille Florez of Pflugerville; two daughters, Lacey Rico and Michalea Orona of Austin; a sister, Sally Florez of Pflugerville; and a brother, Christopher Lee Florez of Austin. Harold Gene Rohde
Services for Harold Gene Rohde, 75, of Holland were held at Thursday April 14 at Heartfield Funeral Home Chapel in Belton with Rev Mike Swink officiating. Burial was in Kyle Cemetery in Kyle, Texas. Harold Gene Rohde, formerly of Niederwald and Austin, passed away April 11 in a Temple hospital. He was born July 3, 1929 in Kyle. Mr Rohde proudly served his country as a corporal in the Army during the Korean War. He farmed and ran a dairy in his earlier years in the Kyle and Niederwald area. He served 12 years as a manager of the meat market for Kash Karry Grocery and 17 years as Assistant Supervisor of Grounds Maintenance at the University of Texas, retiring in 1984. In 1985 he moved to Holland where he became active in public service, serving as President of the SPJST, Mayor of Holland, on the Board of Directors of the Holland Chamber of Commerce, the American Legion, and as a member of St John Lutheran Church in Bartlett. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maurine Meuth Rohde; his brother, Kenneth Rohde; his parents Pauline and Erwin Rohde; and a step-grandchild, Heather Rohlack. Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Florene A Rohde of Holland; his sister, Gwendolyn Dupree-Webber of San Marcos; stepson Vince Ewald of Austin; stepson Donald Ewald of Austin; and stepdaughter Nancy Larson of Tyler. Having no children of his own, he is survived by a number of step-grandchildren who called him grandpa: Daffney Pajestka of Holland, Deanne Mickelson of Austin, Jessica Rohlack of Dallas, Karen Perrone of Dripping Springs, JoLynne Kelsey of Buda, Clay Gourley of Austin, Michele Ewald of Austin, Angela Ewald of Austin, and Stephanie Jenkins of Tyler. Shirley Schlapia
Funeral services for Shirley Schlapia, 71, of Bartlett were held 11 AM Thursday March 31 at Goodnight Funeral Home Chapel with Rev Lianne Turner officiating. Burial followed in Bartlett City Cemetery. She died March 28 at her home. Shirley Schlapia was born Nov 20, 1933 in Troy to Cleo Hill and Walter Patton at the home of her grandparents, Luther and Mary Patton. Shirley’s parents moved to Bartlett in October, 1941 where she graduated from high school in 1941. She married Raymond Schlapia on Aug 25, 1951. Raymond was in the Air Force, so Shirley tagged along. During their years together, they had three children, Ronald, Randall, and Karen. Shirley became an LVN in 1970 and worked at Will-O-Bell Nursing Home more than 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband in April 2002. Survivors include her children; six grandsons; and five great-grandchildren. Goodnight Funeral Home was in charge.
Raymond Saage
Funeral services for Raymond Saage, a resident of Roseberg since 1938, were held March 2 at First United Methodist Church in Roseberg. Interment was in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. He died Feb 25. Raymond Saage was born in Bartlett to Adolph and Bertha Saage. He graduated from Bartlett High School as salutatorian and went on to SMU. He retired from Houston Lighting and Power about 29 years ago, at which time he began a lengthy association with Fort Bend Federal Savings. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Reno Saage; and a grandson. Survivors include 2 daughters, 1 son, 3 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
J D Sweet
J D Sweet, 66, passed away April 19 in Holland. Graveside services were April 26 at Greenwood Memorial Park. J D Sweet was born June 25, 1938 in San Diego, Calif. He was the owner of Advanced Mfg Co and served his country during the Vietnam War. Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Nancy Sweet of Holland; sons, Jason Sweet and Wade DeForest of Fort Worth; daughters Tamara Sweet of Dallas, Janice Beagle of Hebron, Kentucky, and Christie DeForest of Temple; sisters Beverly Combs of Los Angeles and Kay Sweet of San Diego; brother Ray Davis of Holand; and stepmother Marie Sweet of San Diego.
Doris Lynn Voight
Funeral services for Doris Lynn Voight, 81, a lifetime resident of Bartlett, were held Thurs Feb 3 at St John Lutheran Church in Bartlett with Rev. Mike Swink officiating. Burial was in St John Cemetery. She died Sunday Jan 30, 2005 in a Temple hospital. Doris Lynn Voight was born March 6, 1923 in Bartlett, the daughter of Pauline (Joiner) and Euey Leo Cameron. On Dec 31, 1950 she married Wallace Walter Voight. She was a member of St John Lutheran Church. Until her retirement, Mrs Voight had been employed with Southwestern Bell for 15 years as a telephone operator. She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association and the Telephone Pioneers. She was preced in death by her parents, one sister, and two brothers. Survivors include her husband, Wallace Voight of Bartlett; her daughter, Tina Steglich of Bartlett; her son, Joe Cavanaugh of Bartlett; three grandsons; two great-grandchildren; her sister, Ruth Nello Pope of Angleton; and two sisters-in-law, Isabel Cameron of Bartlett and Sue Cameron of Odessa. C E West
Services for C E West, 80, of Holland, were held at 10:30 AM Friday March 4 at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Temple with Rev Ranjan Cletus officiating. Burial was in Holland Cemetery with military honors. He died Tuesday March 1 in a Temple hospital. C E West was born in Bartlett to Jessie Levy and Cora Estelle Green. He was a lifelong Bell County resident and served in the Air Force from World War II through the Vietnam War. Mr West retired after 20 years of service, and upon retiring, opened West Grocery and Bait Stand in Harker Heights. He was an avid camper and fisherman in and around the lakes of Central Texas. He married Bernice Gorubec on May 17, 1963. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Bernice West of Holland; 6 children, Sally Ann Nichols of Joplin, Missouri; Ruby Raydin of Joplin, Missouri; Barbara Ann Osborn of Amarillo; Cathy Spinn of Holland; Sissy Caton of Winsboro; and William Jessie Worth of Bryan; a sister, Pearl Glover of Caldwell; 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Stella Mae Whitlow
Graveside services for Stella Mae Whitlow, 103, of Albuquerque, New Mexico and formerly of Bartlett, will be held October 8 at 11 AM at the Bartlett City Cemetery, followed by a gathering at the Old Bartlett Elementary School Community Room. She died Sept 15 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Stella Mae Whitlow was born August 28, 1902 to Lon and Annie Norman Whitlow in Bartlett. She graduated from Bartlett High School, attended one year at the College of Industrial Arts, and began teaching in a two-room schoolhouse. She later graduated from North Texas Teacher's College in Denton and taught in Thorndale before starting a long and rewarding career teaching second grade in Taylor for 41 years. After retirement, Stella was a valuable member of the Bartlett community, helping to establish the Bartlett Public Library, and enrolling Bartlett in the Texas Highway Wildflower Seeding Program. In 1988, she moved to Albuquerque to be near her sister, Bobbie Whitlow Walters; niece, Ann Walters Robinson; nephew Joe Walters; and grand-niece Barbara Robinson, now in Boulder, Colorado. She was preceded in death by Ted and Merle Whtlow of Belton, Fay Whitlow of Refugio, Gus and Cora Whitlow of Holland, and Mary Ann Whitlow Johnson of Round Rock. Survivors include her sister, Bobbie Whitlow Walters in Albuquerque; her brother Bud Whitlow of Belton; her niece Ann Robinson; and nephews Joe Walters, Jim Walters of Denver, and Pat Walters of Belton.
William M Wood
A private memorial service for William (Bill) M Wood was held at Holland Cemetery on April 30. William (Bill) M Wood was born April 9, 1927 in Holland to Claude M Wood and Emma Ferguson Wood and died April 22 at King’s Daughter’s Charity in Temple. He was married to Fay Mitchell Wood for almost 30 years. He is pre-deceased by his parents and two brothers, Frank and Buddy. Mr Wood is survived by his sisters, Vivian Paulsen of Temple, Gay Rohlack of Holland; and Gary Wood Academy. He is survived by four sons, David Wood of Austin, Bryan Wood of College Station, Bruce Wood of Pflugerville, and Curtis Wood of Crowley.

Services for Adela Anne Zajicek, 84, of Holland were held 4 pm July 2 at Val Verde Baptist Church with Dr Rodney Kruse officiating. She died Wed June 29 at her home. Adela Anne Zajicek was born in the Seaton Community and was a homemaker and rancher’s wife. She was a member of SPJST Lodge of Holland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leopold Zajicek. Burial followed in St John Cemetery. He died Thursday Sept 6, 2005 in a local nursing home. Willard Zander was born in Paige Texas on Dec 13, 1924, the son of Fritz and Laura (Marburger) Zander. On Dec 23, 1967, he married Lucille Lindemann. Mr Zander was employed as a mechanic with Bell County and was a member of St John Lutheran Church in Bartlett. Survivors include his wife, Lucille Zander of Bartlett; daughter Laurie Klepac of Jarrell; one grandson, Alex; a sister, Lucille Swanzy of Temple; and nieces and nephews.
