Patrick White

Patrick James White was born to Mark and Wendy (Mendiola) White on March 31, 1987 in Fort Worth, Texas. He passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2011 after a lengthy illness. He grew up in Bartlett and attended Bartlett High School where he loved being a part of the high school band, playing the bass drum for the drum line. After high school, Patrick came to work for Mayflower Movers. He enjoyed the physical aspect of a hard day's work. In May of 2009, Patrick suffered a debilitating bout of brain seizures and was placed into a drug- induced coma. Though doctors were unable to determine the cause of the seizures and had all but given up, Patrick awoke in July 2009 and after 3 months of rehabilitation he walked out of the hospital.
In March of 2010, Patrick moved back to Bartlett and resided with his parents. Patrick thoroughly loved playing with his son Johnny, Lil'Man, and his nephews and nieces- Tony, Elena, Isabel, Salma and Alex. On the days he spent with Lil'Man, they would play so hard that a nap was going to be needed by the end of the day; sometimes, Lil'Man even took a nap. Patrick was also involved in service to his church, Sts. Cyril and Methodius in Granger. In the beginning, he would sit at the rear of the church and attentively watch to see how many alter servers were present. If he did not believe enough were present, he would loudly and proudly volunteer. Soon, he found his calling to help ready the church for the next service. He also was ever ready to assist his parents with communion route to the homebound. He generally went with his mother to visit those at Will-O-Bell, because "She got to see more people than dad". When it came time for the offering, he always had his dollar ready to go, even if meant trying to give a winning lottery ticket. He so innocently wanted to just support his church. He also became active in CCD. He looked forward each week when he could teach class. He proudly spoke of his faith in God and how much he loved God and how much everybody needed God in their life. He never tired of enthusiastically saying "Believe in God because God loves us". Patrick put everybody before himself and when you saw him you would have to brace yourself because you were getting a big hug. You could offer a hand shake, but you were getting a bear- hug.
On January 28, 2011, the seizures once again took him back to the hospital and into a drug- induced coma. Sadly, this time they were just too strong and on April, 10, 2011, God lovingly ended his suffering and called him Home. During this time, it became evident that in a short 24 years, Patrick touched a number of lives and will be greatly missed. However, he no longer suffers and more than likely did The Worm through Heaven's Gate and is shooting pool with Jesus. He is also playing Monopoly with his Grandma Mary Jane, Grandpa Tom and Memaw, and more than likely embezzling from the game bank.
Arrangements under the direction of Goodnight Funeral Home, Bartlett, TX.

Virginia Elizabeth Jackson Nixon

Virginia Elizabeth Jackson Nixon passed from this world and entered her eternal rest on January 23,  2010.  She was born in Bartlett, Texas , on November 17, 1923 to Glynn Messer Jackson and Ralph Jackson, attended Jacksonville School and graduated from Bartlett High School.  She married Ruben S. Nixon on September 25, 1948, in Austin, Texas, honeymooning at the San Jose Motel on South Congress.  Virginia lived and worked in Austin during 1948, 1949 and 1950 teaching sewing at the Singer Sewing Shop on Congress Avenue, returning to Bartlett to raise their family there.  In 1969, she  and her family moved back to Austin to permanently reside there.  Virginia gave her life to Christ at a very young age and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bartlett.

Some of Virginia's happiest childhood memories were of spending time at the Jackson Ranch east of Bartlett with her beloved grandmother Alice Jackson and her grandmother's family, hanging around the cattle dipping vat, playing in the blacksmith shop, damming up the spring to make a swimming hole, and riding her horse 'til her heart's content.  As an adult she was active in the Cornelia Wilson Garden Club, she loved preparing for holidays in her home in Bartlett surrounded by extended family.  Along with her husband she was a "hands on" real estate investor -- never shying from a paint brush or a hammer.  In later years, Virginia enjoyed traveling with her husband and family to New Mexico and throughout the US , playing with her grandchildren and raising dachshunds.  Virginia was a very loving and special human being; her secret ingredient in all things was love and kindness.

Virginia respected all creation.  Even so, she could tell you exactly how to set a snare for any pesky coyote that might be bothering her chickens and could take those same cute little chickens that she had so fiercely guarded and turn them into a delicious dinner.  She knew and taught her children and grandchildren the lessons that she had been taught by her grandmother:   the names of all the Texas wildflowers and the necessity for taking care of the land.  She was proud of being a Texan.   Like so many other Texans of her era, she was frugal, never living beyond her means, generous and gracious to all she met and always willing to help those in need.  She was amazed by life and her wonderment of life never left her.

One day while visiting at the nursing home, a family member commented on the beauty of the flowers in the vase and said it was a miracle that God could create something so beautiful; whereupon Virginia said  "I don't see why you're so impressed with the flower, God made us, so God could certainly make a flower."  And that is what she believed.  And that is how she lived with a quiet wonderment and awe at the world and all its people and creatures

Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved son, Ralph Kennard Nixon, her parents, a brother Ralph Harlan Jackson, sister Dorothy Stevenson, nephew Gary Jackson and a great nephew David Stevenson.  She is survived by a devoted husband of 61 years Ruben S. Nixon, daughter Nancy Nixon Kelly and son-in-law Carl Kelly; grandson Clayton M. Kelly, and granddaughter Amanda Nixon, daughter-in-law Brenda Nixon; nieces Betty Hudec and Lisa Jackson, and a nephew Bruce Stevenson.   Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Seton Hospital, during the many hospital stays, the employees at Gracy Woods I for their patience and care during Virginia's illness.   Visitation 5 to 8 pm Tuesday January 26 at Austin Peel & Son Funeral Home and Burial in Bartlett City Cemetery on Wednesday January 27 at 11 am; Virginia is returning to the prairie she loved so much.
