Mr & Mrs Curtis Wolf Celebrate 60 Years

Curtis & Jewel Wolf of Holland celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on February 2. Curtis married Jewel Clark on February 2, 1952 in Taylor, Texas. After serving 2 years in the service, they moved to the Holland area and started farming. They have lived in this area 58 years. They have 7 children, 8 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.

Hightower Engagement

Jim & Patsy Hightower of Bartlett are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Heidi Lynn Hightower, to John Bradley Cooper, son of Jerry & Janice Cooper of Clifton. The couple plan to exchange vows on April 21, 2012 at St John Lutheran Church in Bartlett.

Elizabeth Fritz Awarded Honor Band Third Chair

Holland High School Junior Elizabeth Fritz was awarded 3rd Chair in the Honor Band of Region 8 Association of Texas Small School Bands Clinic Jan 21 at Grosbeck High School. Open to band students from 1A, 2A and 3A central texa high schools, Elizabeth was one of only 10 studentws from class A in the Region 8 Concert Band, totaling 67 students. She is the only Holland High student to achieve Honor Band status in recent years. Daughter of Dr. David & Sharon Fritz of Holland, she has been active in Holland Band since 8th grade. A student of Mrs Dotty Kneten of Bartlett, Elizabeth is also a talented pianist. Her Honor Band performance was supported by the attendance of her mother, Mrs Sharon Fritz, and her grandmother, Mrs. Joyce Wirgau of Leer, Michigan. Serving as music coaches are Elizabeth Kriczky, HHS Band Director, Garland Kneten, HHS Assistant Band Director, who also served as trip sponsor for the honor band.

Holland Superintendent Contract Extended

The Holland School Board extended the 5 year contract of Superintendent Cindy Gunn for another year. In other business, the board accepted the resignation of Gary Ramthum as athletic director and rehired him as teacher and coach to fulfull his two year contract. The position of athletic director has been posted and some 130 applications received.

Locals Named To UMHB Honor Roll

Named to the Provost's Honor Roll at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor for Fall 2011 were Cassandra Lynn Hinz of Bartlett, Pamela Rose Stuchly of Granger, and Cameron Lee Doskocil of Holland. To receive this recognition, students must acheive a 3.85 grade point average of a 4.0 scale. Named to the Dean's Honor Roll, which requires a 3.5 grade point, were Laura Brooke Butler and Kathryn Anne Groseclose of Holland and Blair Robinson Barkley, Patrick William Kinne, Christine Marie Marrero and Laura Ann Shubert of Jarrell.

Benefit Set For Mike Vrana

The friends of Mike Vrana, who was diagnosed with cancer on September 1, are planning a benefit to help defray costs associated with current and future medical expenses. Mike, owner of Granger Pit Stop, had surgery on September 16 and has a very rare cancer called Nueroendocine Carcinoma of the Right Parotid Gland. He is only the fifth person in the United States to be diagnosed with this type since 1972. There is no protocol on treatment. Mike is being treated with intensive radiation chemotherapy. Granger Recreation Center will be the location for the Mike Vrana Benefit Dinner, Dance and Auction on Saturday, February 11. A barbecue pork dinner with all the trimmings will be served from 4 PM to 6 PM. Dinner tickets are $10 for dine in or take out. Only a limited number of tickets will be sold at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased at Granger Pit Stop, Granger Red & White, First State Bank and Granger National Bank. A silent auction will begin at 4 PM with a live auction at 6 PM. CR 354 is reuniting for one night only to provide music for the dance, which begins at 8:30 PM. Tickets to the dance are $15 per person with children ten & under free. Donations to the Mike Vrana Benefit can be made at Granger National Bank or by mailing a check to P.O. Box 301, Granger, Texas 76530, made out to Mike Vrana Beneft.
