his page is dedicated to some of the stud dogs who have gone towards making the Barleyarch kennel one of the all-time winning German Shorthaired Pointer kennels. Without the efforts of the breeders and owners of these special dogs we would not have achieved the successes; and this is our way of acknowledging their individual contributions. Below are photos and some personal thoughts and memories of these boys.
In choosing a stud dog, our our needs are quite clear, is he healthy? is he a sound character? does he possess quality? and does he and his mate compliment each other, that is to say does he possess the qualities we need? If the answer is yes to these, we study his pedigree and if we see no health issues in his pedigree we will use him. This pragmatic approach has served us well, not for us is the approach of "ah well his grand fathers uncle appears 3 times" as we believe if the parents dont posses the qualities nor will the progeny!
Ben was the first dog we ever used, he was a correct sized solid liver from the first litter ever produced from the prepotent dam Sh Ch Patricks Piper of Wittekind. He was one of three titleholding littermates, the others being Sh Ch Isara Kurzhaar Antler and Ch Isara Kurzhaar Alpe (foundation of the Geramer's kennel), not forgetting Antje another littermate responsible for producing Sh Ch Isara Kurzhaar Merganser, the sire of our foundation bitches Ch Isara Kurzhaar Xanthippe and Ch Isara Kurzhaar Xylophone.

Monty was an elegant liver and white male who took his time to mature, but he was so worth the wait. He had the most gorgeous headpiece, topline and tailset. He was littermate to Sh Ch Inchmarlo Carolina a stunning bitch, their sire being the legendary American, Australian and English Show Champion Adams Hagen Von Waldenburg imported from America, out of an Inchmarlo dam. Monty was a prepotent stud and produced 7 British title holders, many of whom went on to found successful kennels themselves.
Brig was loved by many fellow breeders, for his type, not a showy dog, but sound with substance, "a no frills" sort of dog. I have him to thank for the gentleness we have come to expect from our stock, he produced our dear Ch Barleyarch Polka, who has been a very special dog for us. In our opinion he belongs up there with greats as he was one of the few GSPs to ever achieve their Dual Champion title

Jake was one of the first GSPs to take the Group ring by storm, he was not only typical, but he had great style and we enjoyed many years of competing with him "head to head", one of the few males to give our own Sh Ch Barleyarch Panther, his half brother, both being sired by Sh Ch Inchmarlo Montana, a run for his money. Jake came from a kennel we had always admired and we felt if he had enough to beat us, then the only way to move on was to borrow him for ourselves, which we did. Oh and it was worth it, we produced the fabulous brood Sh Ch Barleyarch Painted Lady.....what a pity he was so under-used.

Snob was a vibrant dog who passed his energetic and sometimes over the top take on life through to his get. He was a typical dog of correct size, with a harsh jacket and most lovely head. Son of the beautiful bitch Sh Ch Tannahill Weaver of Byburn by Sh Ch Inchmarlo Montana. His contribution to our kennel is immense, for without him we would not have our spectacular Sh Ch Barleyarch Piccadilly, whose presence in the breed in the UK has been immeasurable.
Punch is a dog that I fell in love with after travelling on a gruelling journey from mainland UK to Ireland, his character during that journey made me feel I wanted a dog as sweet as him. A flashy dog who, like many dogs we choose, possessed "personality plus" he could be wayward to show at times, but was of correct size and had hindquarters to die for...........sired by the outstanding sire Ch Inchmarlo Ragot Mai. What did we get? Ch Barleyarch Playboy.........the dog CC record holder!
Geireann was a typical "Inchmarlo" in as much as he was the sweetest natured dog with an attractive colouring, his breeding ran on similar lines to combinations that had worked for us before, he was responsible for producing 5 British title-holders in all. He was one of the last titled dogs from this great kennel and has produced our stunning Sh Ch Barleyarch Puzzle who is so very much like him, carrying that same easy light footed gait and a mouth that could carry a butterfly.
TJ was part of the illustrious Hillanhi dynasty, and one of 3 titled siblings, again like so many sires we have used, he was not so prolific, but without him, many of the recent Barleyarch Champions would not exist, his pedigree is impeccable carrying many of the dogs who gel so well with our line, and the proof is in Sh Ch Barleyarch Paris and Sh Ch Barleyarch Pickpocket. A very true moving, medium sized dog with bone and that extra bit of class that echoes his ancestry.
