Equitana Fundraising: 2012 Saddlebred Calendars - $10 each
First Fame's Nitro foals arrive The first foals have dropped and they are showing a great deal of promise. Honky Tonk Man is out of a Thoroughbred mare and is a strapping bay and white colt, who has been sold to a future eventing home. Starfire was a purebred American Saddlebred filly and another gorgeous bay and white, sadly passed away a fews days after birth. Our most sincere condolences to her owner. Tropical Storm is a purebred American Saddlebred filly and black and white, and doing well. There is one more foal due this season to Nitro and that will be it until next year!
The 2010/11 Breeding Season is fast approaching Nitro's first foal crop is due this season and it's a very exciting time for us of course! We are breeding back to Nitro again this year and will be making available both stallions again this season. We have made some small changes to our service contract and mare care schedules so make sure you check them out if you're planning to breed to one of our boys. We were very short on room last season and with a 100% 14-day preg test rate we have made the whole process quicker and easier this year. Please view the stallion page to download and read the new contracts for the 2010/11 season and as always, questions are welcome and will be answered ASAP. Bookings are now open!

Registration Update Canyonleigh Golden Jubilee, our purebred palomino American Saddlebred stallion, has after a long process been upgraded into the ASSRA 'A' Stud Book register. We were extremely fortunate to have his pedigree confirmed in full with both Sire and Dam and all 'Grandparents' registered in the ASSRA Stud Book. Fred is now officially recognised as a sire of purebred American Saddlebreds and all his purebred get are eligible for 'A' Stud Book, where the mares meet the appropriate criteria. The Broodmare ranks swell at Black Orchid Stud We have two new additions to our herd! Narrawin's Morning Quest, a purebred American Saddlebred mare, was bred by Narrawin Stud. 'Star' is by Wildmoor Pilgrim Son, and is out of Anaconda's Morning Mist. Joining her is her half sister Wantadilla Serenade, a partbred American Saddlebred mare by Wildmoor Pilgrim Son. 'Sandy' is out of Talquah Seren, an Arabian mare. Both arrived from an unfortunate circumstance; we're busy getting these mares into good condition and hope to share photos soon.
A Great Breeding Season Many thanks to everyone for their fantastic support for our first offical breeding season. All mares have settled and we now wait with much excitement for the foals! We have a Training Day coming up later in March. If you are interested in attending, please email us and I will provide you with the details. All horses supplied.
Website Update Stallions page has been updated with Nitro's registration details. Breeding contracts and Mare fee schedule have been added in PDF. Added a photo gallery for Nitro and copy of Genetic colour testing. About Us a new page added to tell you well.. about us!
Results from Winter All Breeds Show 2009 Fame's Nitro burst onto the show scene on a beautiful winter's day and paraded to Champion American Saddlebred, and took home a couple of reds in the official Pinto ring. While Nitro is still learning to show, we were nevertheless thrilled with his willing and good behaviour on the day, where he showed in a light halter and chain. We'd also like to sincerely thank the staff of ASHA, ASSRA and Pintos WA for their incredible last-minute support to accept Nitro's paperwork for this show. Thank you!
Fame's Nitro now registered! Nitro is now officially registered with ASHA (122065) with DNA on file. His ASSRA registration ('A' registry) is pending (A487) and Pintos WA registration is pending. We also have formal paperwork from Animal Genetics in FL, USA confirming that genetically Nitro is Homozygous Tobiano and Homozygous Black. While we knew this before purchasing Nitro, the paperwork was lost and we have retested him to allow peace of mind for our clients.
Results from ANZAC Day Breed Show 2009 Sparkling Glen Spirit's Phantom proudly flew the Saddlebred flag and was sashed Supreme Champion American Saddlebred. His behaviour was perfect and we had a lovely day relaxing and chatting with other competitors and spectators. The judges were very complimentary and hoped to see more Saddlebreds in the ring soon!
Fame's Nitro lands in Australia Our beautiful purebred American Saddlebred stallion Nitro touched down in Sydney 7/1 safe and sound and begins his quarantine on Australian soil! We are very excited to finally have this colt home and are looking forward to a great 2009 with him.
Results from Winter All Breeds Show 2008 Canyonleigh Golden Jubilee was sashed Supreme Exhibit American Saddlebred after a 7 year hiatus from the show ring. We're looking forward to the 2009 show and hopefully more Saddlebreds in the class!
Website and General Update Vision's High Society arrived yesterday (4/7/08) safe and sound! Nitro has begun his vaccination programme prior to quarantine and will begin his training shortly at Oak Haven Arabians in Texas before being shipped to Los Angeles in September for export. For Sale page has been streamlined to match the rest of the website.
Black Orchid Stud has moved! We are now officially operating from our new property in Mount Helena - 8 acres that we are hard at work setting up for the stud. This property has lovely views, great soil and magnificent native trees, best of all it's only 15 minutes from Midland. Our plans are to have 12 1/4 acre three strand electric paddocks with yards and shelters, 2 post and rail stallion paddocks, 2 foaling paddocks, a 40x25 arena, a 15m breaker's roundyard, a dedicated parking area and a roomy shed or two for hay and storage. The post and rail stallion paddocks have gone up as well as 5 1/4 acre paddocks and a temporary hay shed. We've also just marked out a location for the riding arena, roundyard and remaining paddocks. Ludemann Ag Services have made a stellar effort to sow pasture for us so late in the season and the seedlings are coming up, hurray! This custom mix of clovers and horse-friendly ryegrass will be oversown with rhodes and kikuyu in spring to develop a fabulous pasture for our horses and visiting mares. pic below: Teddy the building supervisor

Thanks to: Fe from Stockyard for the loan of her hubby Stan (and friends!) who put up the stallion paddocks, the guys at Coates Hire in Midland, who are wonderful to deal with, Ken Angell for the pasture management plan, the guys at Landmark Midland for their assistance in getting seed and electrical fittings in record time, Ludemann Ag Services for amazingly fast service spraying, ploughing and sowing our pasture, my friend Paul and his mates for their unending help setting up the property, my lovely boyfriend Phil for the electrical and general assistance (thanks for the shock too!), and my wonderful mum Romana, the 'silent partner' and co-partner of Black Orchid Stud - she loves our horses as much as I do. Without her this stud would not exist. Thanks everyone!

Report from Fair Hill 2 Day Event USA Australian-bred Saddlebred Canyonleigh Sirecho 'Rocco' (exported to the USA) and his rider Kate Chadderton competed at the 2 day event in Maryland this week. Kate reports that they scored 38.5 on the dressage a personal best for Rocco, but an error in the showjumping for 4 penalties saw them slip from the placings. Several people asked about Rocco and his breeding including the dressage judge. Canyonleigh Sirecho is closely bred to Canyonleigh Golden Jubilee; their sires are full brothers and Canyonleigh Sirecho's dam is Canyonleigh Golden Jubilee's maternal dam. Canyonleigh horses have a fabulous heritage and produce great working horses all over Australia. Congratulations Kate and Rocco! (thanks to Lesley of Inspiration Farm for the information)

Vision's High Society We have arranged to purchase this purebred American Saddlebred mare and would like to say a big thank you to John, Dianne and Tanya Kee for giving us the opportunity to add such a nice girl to our breeding programme. Vision's High Society epitomises the calibre of the Australian breeding programmes and we can't wait to put her to our pinto Saddlebred colt Nitro later this year. Thanks!
Black Orchid Stud is moving! We are delighted to announce that we have just acquired an 8 acre property in Mount Helena that will be our new stud property come May this year. We will have room to run our entire breeding operation, plus hold outside mares for breeding.

Summer Series Success Maddi writes that her Saddlebred Pony Ashcroft Park Inspiration 'Flea' (by Canyonleigh Golden Jubilee) was very successful at the Summer Series this year.
"Just wanted to give you an update on how Flea went at the Summer Series. He was absolutely amazing over the last 4 weeks and was almost unbeaten. Out of the 12 classes we did in the whole series we got 8 1st's and 2 2nd's!! Here are the results: Week 1: 1st 60cm, 2nd 70cm Week 2: 1st 60cm, 1st 70cm, 2nd 80cm Week 3: 1st 60cm, 1st 70cm Week 4: 1st 60cm, 1st 70cm, 1st 80cm We ended up being high point leaders in all 3 classes and came home with 3 rugs, lots of ribbons and lots of vouchers!! I am so happy with him, he's progressed so much over the last year. You should be very proud of your breeding as I can honestly say he is probably the best pony showjumper in the state! He is very hard to beat. This year we're going to jump higher so hoping to get to 110. Maybe graded maiden D grade which would be fantastic. And with our eventing, we're starting at B grade at Serpentine as his cross country has improved drastically over summer. Hope your new stuff is going well and im sure Fred will breed many more super sports ponies in the future! from Maddi and Flea :D"
Congratulations Maddi!

Canyonleigh Golden Jubilee We recently purchased Fred and would like to say we are grateful to the people who made it happen; Pamela and Cat - thank you for trusting us with your much loved CJ and we will make sure he will continue to enjoy life and make more wonderful babies!
