Colin, CT7ACG (G3VCQ) at the
controls of my FT2000!

ZyWeb

For the past 10 years or so this site was the home of the Sheffield DX net, since moving to the Algarve in 2010 the website has not been in use. We previoulsy broadcast international ham radio news, we hope that we can continue to do this in the not too distant future.

I am a keen DXer and chase it when ever I can!  Conditions on the bands have been good over the summer of 2010 and will I hope continue to improve for the next couple of years at least! My station here in the Algarve is pretty much the same as I had back in the UK.  I have an FT2000, TS930s and a FT857.  I tend to use the FT2000 most of the time and its linked in with my fully automatic SPE Expert 1K_FA solid state amp giving me in the region of 1KW on all bands.  My antenna system is a TH3 a 3 element yagi for 20,15 and 10m. On the lower bands I have a Butternut HF2-V and I need an antenna up for 160m and 10mhz which would be good too but they will have to wait for the moment as there are other priorities to be dealt with.  I have a 3 element yagi for 6m and a small vertical up for 2m. The TS930s from the late 70's early 80's era works well and has excellent audio especially when I use it with my Heil PR40 and the W2IIHY graphic EQ. combined with my old Yaesu FL2100B amplifier with 400watts is great for rag chewing Hi! I normall use the Heil HC4 for DX,ing.

My QRZ details are okay but if you have not been there then if we have worked me and wish to QSL via the bureau please QSL via the RSGB and G3VCQ, if your emailing direct please see the address on QRZ.com.
I have recently installed  the 40 foot wind up lattice mast for my beams having first dug a 2m square  by 1m down hole, this was filled with concrete and the post put into the hole that supports the tilt over mast.  This was no easy thing to do as the ground is not the softest in the World here in Portugal so I needed a JCB. The picture below is that of my TH3 and 6m 3el beam in the air.

Visiting Portugal? CT7/ callsignes are issued to Amateurs with a licence that is from within the CEPT agreement but so if your only visiting Portugal you should use CT7/your call. Below you can check my log by entering your callsign in the search box and click send. This log updates in real time Thanks to Ham Radio Deluxe software which I use for logging and controlling my FT2000 and SPE 1K-FA amplifier.

Here in the Algarve we have many visitors but recently my XYL Sharon and I were very lucky to meet Bob W5UQ and his XYL Elva on their way home to the states after a visit to the SPE factory in Rome!  Bob and Elva were only with us for a few days but Bob did manage to repair my amp and work 7O6T during his visit as well as enjoying a few days of some fun in the sun with us and Eva!
