The tenor bell at Christ Church, Prestatyn

The six bells of Prestatyn Parish Church were hung during 2004 by Eayre and Smith of Derby and were dedicated by the Lord Bishop of St Asaph, The Right Rev'd John Davies on Sunday 21 December 2004. They were paid for by donations and also by families in memory of a loved one.  A brand new ringing team was coached and there are now twelve regular ringers.

Bellringing

The ringing of bells full circle by means of rope and wheel is unique to the British Isles, a few former colonies and the area around Verona in Italy. Change-ringing in the English-speaking countries has evolved over the last three and a half centuries and some of the changes now rung would be familiar to our predecessors from the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries.

Until the late Nineteenth Century, most ringing was organised by bands belonging to individual churches or in major cities of the time such as London, Oxford and Norwich, belonging to groups of churches. Over the last hundred and fifty years many societies based largely on diocesan boundaries have been established.

Today
There are over five thousand rings of five or more bells on which change ringing can be practised. These are mainly in Anglican churches but there is a growing number of ringers in other Christian traditions
