HIGHLIGHTS FROM December 1975

Fifteen Great crested Grebe were noted during the month as were nine Little Grebe, ten to thirteen Grey Heron and maximum of three hundred and fifty-nine Mallard. Teal had a best count of one hundred-seventy six, and Wigeon peaked at one hundred-nineteen.Tufted Duck varied in numbers from five to eighteen, likewise Pochard varied between twenty-two and thirty-nine.

One to two Goldeneye were present on four days,and single Goosander on 1st,14th,15th,and 27th, with three on 28th.
A pair of Scaup were present from 22nd to the 24th.

Four Mute Swans visited on 24th and two were present on 25th and 26th.

There were five Whooper Swans on 22nd(two adults and three immatures),and eight on 27th which included four adults.

An adult Merlin was seen on 26th.

Six Grey Partridge on 15th, a Common Sandpiper was noted on five occasions, and finally an adult Glaucous Gull was present on both 24th and 29th.
