HOW CAN I BE OF SERVICE?

Welcome to the cyber home of The Wellness Concierge®. I’m glad you could take a few minutes to visit and review our resources.

AN “INFO OASIS”
This site was designed to serve as a one-stop, online resource center and information clearinghouse for travel-health–related news, articles, books, products, and resources
. Much like a traditional concierge, I’m here to serve as your cyber guide to all-things travel-health related—although I’ll be stretching the parameters to include other information and resources that affect your overall well being and fitness.

Our primary audience is business travelers, those road warriors who hit the streets and the airports with alarming regularity and who are on intimate terms with stress, fatigue, jet lag, and sleep-deprivation. Not to mention the emotional upheavals and interruptions that life on the road tends to create. But anyone who travels can find content that supports healthy living.

GETTING PERSONAL
The original idea for this site was to produce an online extension of my offline work in researching and writing The Healthy Traveler columns. Marlene R. Fedin

But an essential motivation for doing the site was more personal: I want to encourage people to pay attention to their health and to the importance of self-care.
I want to provide visitors with content that moves them to consider another dimension of travel health, to introduce (or reacquaint) them with the importance of total wellness. To consider what it takes to be physically and emotionally at ease and comfortable no matter where you are or what you encounter on your journeys. Most important, to realize that each of us has the power to choose—and create—a healthier lifestyle despite the challenges to our bodies, spirits, and sanity that travel—and our daily lives—frequently presents.

GOING BEYOND JET LAG AND IMMUNIZATIONS
For many, travel health is equated with preventive efforts or remedies for maladies. But learning how to stay healthy, fit, and balanced in body, mind, and spirit is as important as knowing when not to drink the water and how to avoid traveler’s diarrhea.

My own experience and that of other travelers and health professionals has shown that there’s a lot more to being a healthy traveler than getting the right shots or knowing where to get emergency help. For that reason, I’ve included a periodic column called The Wellness Wire, which offers personal observations and commentary to inspire a healthier life.

The monthly Health Wire features "bits and bobs" of news and info to keep you sane, safe, and healthy on the go. This digest features travel-health and other health, fitness, and nutritional news that affects the well being and quality of life of all travelers.

Knowledge is power. In healthcare on or off the ground, it’s an essential element in making informed choices and in protecting ourselves from unnecessary pain and worse.
