By the August of 2002 the end of the project began to be in sight. The cab of trailer car E56171 had been fitted with its roof and the wiring was virtually complete ( see pictures one and two).
Both vehicles have had window drain channels fitted and most of the trailer car is now insulated. All the partitions with the exception of the toilet in the trailer and the guard's van in the power car have been fitted up. All the aluminium internal window surrounds have been made and all the glass for the partitions has been purchased and cut to size. Work is proceeding to manufacture the heater ducting ( see photo four ) and a new toilet header tank has been made and fitted ( see picture three ).
The trailer car's new laminated windscreens have been fitted and these are to modern standards to protect the unit's future drivers. The rear power car bogie has been removed for attention ( photo five ) while the fuel tanks have been completed and now await fitting.
Off site both engines are now almost ready for fitting while the gearboxes, radiators, exhausters and other items are at Butterley awaiting completion of wiring work on the power car.
We hope to have a test run with the trailer within the next couple of months to see how the new wiring performs. |
