ABOUT THE LAKESIDE PLAYERS
If you love theatre but are looking for something a little different, The Lakeside Players may be just the ticket. The community theater company performs original audience-participation murder mysteries and mainstage productions at a variety of venues around the Poconos, including the Settlers Inn, the Waterfront at Ehrhardt's, Paupack Hills Country Club, Elkview Country Club, Pocono Farms Country Club, the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Allentown, Woodloch Pines and Springs, Erie Trackside Manor, Union Dale Hall, and Lakeville Community Hall (our "home" theater for mainstage productions).
Founded in 1999 by Marylou Ambrose and Tony Schwartz, The Lakeside Players have produced nearly two dozen mainstage productions by other playwrights and dozens of murder mysteries penned by Ambrose and Schwartz. Mainstage productions include Sylvia, by A.R. Gurney, featuring an actress playing a dog; Blythe Spirit, by Noel Coward, a classic drawing room comedy; Mixed Emotions, a hilarious courtship between two frisky over-60s that won five awards from the Northeastern Pennsylvania Theatrical Alliance (NEPTA) in 2004; and Something to Hide, a dramatic thriller set in the 1950s that won nine NEPTA awards in 2005, including Best Drama and Best Overall Production. In 2006 we produced the female version of Neil Simon's "The Odd Couple", winning numerous awards for this show, too, including Best Comedy. We again won three awards in 2007 for our production of the thriller, "House On the Cliff".
Some of our most popular murder mysteries include Trouble at the Tropicabana (an I Love Lucy spoof), Polter-Heist (a hauntingly hilarious ghost story), and Dealt a Deadly Hand, (spoofing the movie Casablanca and casino gambling). All three murder mysteries, along with several others, are for sale at here on our website, with more scripts coming soon. Lakeside has also launched an online store, featuring clothing and gifts with theatrical cartoons and sayings.
