Berwyn Station on the Llangollen Railway is about two miles from Llangollen itself and is perched on a rocky outcrop above the River Dee and has platforms which are partly built on a viaduct. Class 108 unit 51907/54490 pulls up at the mock Tudor Station House during the 2008 DMU Gala. The house is to become a holiday let during the 2009 season. (Picture Andrew Chambers)

Between Glyndyfrdwy Station and Carrog the scenery opens out and the Llangollen Railway travels in a wide valley with the line close by the river. This section is very popular with photographers. Here a four-car set consisting of the class 104 and the Wickham approach the distant signal for Glyndyfrdwy on a Carrog to Llangollen working. (Picture Anthony Flusk)

On the evening of the 2008 Railcar Gala all four of the operational sets based at Llangollen were coupled to visiting single car Derby Lighweight Iris and a nine-car set was run non-stop from one end of the line to the other. This was the longest DMU to operate along the line since BRs holiday specials of the early 1960s. The train is seen approaching Carrog in very poor weather. (Picture Mark Riley)

The climb from the Pentrefelin Bridge at Llangollen to Berwyn Station is heavily graded and curved but is through beautiful scenery, with the river some feet below the tracks at this point. This excellent photo was taken from Berwyn Station using a long lens and clearly shows the grade which Wickham set 50416/56171 is having to tackle. (Picture Mike Martin)

Pending the completion of the extension to Corwen the second platform at Carrog is rarely used, except during gala days. The class 127/105 hybrid is seen waiting for its next turn during the 2008 Railcar Gala. The vehicle nearest the camera is former Bedford-St Pancras line power car 51618. (Picture Mike Martin)

Although the Midland Railway-Butterley, where our class 141 is outbased, is not as scenic as the Llangollen line it is possible to get interesting shots of our trains. This shot shows 141113 in between duties at the DMU Gala in March 2008 parked on what was the branch which led from Swanwick Junction to the Butterley Ironworks. (Picture Iain Hazle)
