* Line up at Pentrefelin shed on the Sunday of the Gala. From left to right, W&M Railbus 79960 from the North Norfolk Railway, our class 104 set with car 50528 leading and 54490 from the 108 set, carrying a headboard in memory of member Johan Jong who recently passed on.
The annual gala took place on June 10th and 11th and was blessed with fine weather and a good attendance, which was slightly up on last year. Star of the show was the Waggon and Maschinenbau railbus from the North Norfolk Railway which was on its first visit away from its base for some 40 years. The Railbus operated four complete trips of the line and also was involved in some shuttles in the Llangollen area. All the resident fleet was in action apart from the class 105 trailer 56456 which has been withdrawn for serious remedial work to be carried out. Saturday saw the 104 unit working with the class 127 power car on the first train which left at 10-30 and the action continued all day until a six-car formation which left Llangollen at 7 in the evening. A barbecue took place on the Saturday evening which was well attended by crews and some of our visitors. Sunday's timetable followed that of Saturday but the rosters were altered round so that all possible combinations were run during the weekend. The Railway would like to thank the North Norfolk Railway for the loan of the Railbus and in particular the crew who came over to look after it. North Norfolk's W&M Railbus calls at Berwyn station - possibly the first time this type of traction has ever worked in Wales. |
