Ayamonte

Juan Macias

"Specialises in Pork & Jamon Iberico, owns jamon iberico shop next door. The Suckling Pig is super. Speak English, and an English Menu." "Excellent traditional food at very reasonable prices." 'good place with plenty of chorizo (spicy sausage) and jambon (ham) based dishes and you can also get raciones (portions) of Jabugo ham.'
Fronting onto Plaza de la Ribera. Paseo de la Ribera, 2.

Parador

"Some very enterprising Andalucian cooking, with a Gastronomique menu. Wonderful views over bridge & river." 'a more formal dining experience with all the specialities of the region.' English service & menu.
On the top of the hill, by roundabout as you come into Ayamonte.

La Lota

“English speaking, very nice traditional food (with some meat dishes you even get VEGETABLES), but don't expect the steak to be 'thick', can get busy at weekends.” “Owned by a Brit and run by a Portugese Manager with Portugese staff. Interesting cod dishes and very healthy portions. The recommended Ortiga red wine was excellent.”
Padre Alvarez, 8

La Cueva

"This one has just had a 'facelift' and serves lovely food, although the crayfish seemed overpriced at 16 euros for a very small portion. Can recommend the anglerfish and veal. On a recent Monday visit a lot of dishes were not available."
Paseo de la Ribera, 9

La Pasta Gansa

"Lovely pizzas and other Italian dishes at reasonable prices.
Padre Alvarez, 1"

Casa Luciano

"Without doubt the best food I have come across so far. The Linguado is superb and their deserts are lovely. Gets busy in high season so may need to book, closed on Sundays except in August." "Food good but did not stand out from elsewhere in Ayamonte, and bill was highest ever in Ayamonte. Busy. Very Bright." 'The town’s best restaurant (especially for fish) with excellent food.'
Opposite Eroski supermarket. La Palma, 1

El Picadero

Principally a Riding Stables, but at weekends (Fri evening, Sat midday & evening, Sun midday) also operates a restaurant & tapas bar.
“Its mainly meat though with a reasonable selection of fish & poultry dishes. We tried tasty gambas in garlic sauce, probably the most varied and interesting mixed salad we’ve come across in Ayamonte, and then excellent lamp chops and a whole pork fillet, both accompanied by chips. They were both so filling that we didn’t get to try what looked to be a very good range of desserts. Despite opening at 20.30, on a Friday evening, customers were still arriving and being welcomed at 24.00. Looking forward to going back, but will try to be hungrier next time.”
Calle Cuesta San Diego. Turn west at first roundabout up hill towards Parador, take right fork after 100 metres then its up the road on right after 4/500 metres.

El Estadio

"Most enjoyable smart restaurant, owned by father of local bullfighter/painter so lots of bull fighting pictures. Large portions. Very friendly."
Signposted. the first road on right from T junction roundabout at bottom of hill coming into Ayamonte.

Tapas Bars

Casa Vicente

“Produces excellent tapas, including tuna fish with onion and local seafood, and excellent daily special raciones. Very limited space inside but in fine weather, there are tables outside under parasols, and often queues of customers.”
Calle Cristobal Colon 18. Tel: 959 47 09 45

Tasca Quitapena

“A very buzzy tapas & montaditos bar. Not much action before 9 pm, but then fills up quickly. Wide range of tapas, which they also do as media raciones and raciones. Daily tapas are listed on board in Spanish. Their “Quesito quitapena” warm goats cheese and “Tortillitas de gambas” mini prawn omelette tapas are excellent.” Most ordering is in Spanish, but they now have an English menu. Each tapas is 1.5-2 euros so you can afford to try without breaking the bank.
Overlooking the marina, opposite Meson Choco.

Pa-La-Dar

"A small very friendly tapas bar with now a superb English menu. Music some Friday evenings."
At junction of Calle Luis Braille and Padre Alvarez.

El Costalero

“One of the most archetypal tapas bar in Ayamonte. Grilled choco exactly right. Has been heard to tell customers that he wasn't taking any more orders from them as they had had enough food and he had other customers to serve!”"
Mostly standing indoors with a few tables but in fine weather spreads out up and down Calle Angustias.

Bars

La Tertulia

Also known as Piano Bar. “Lovely cafe/bar, nice relaxed atmosphere and sometimes live music, also sells lovely cakes.”

"Large bar with comfy sofas."
Padre Alvarez, 13

La Biblioteca

“Relaxed friendly bar with pool table, electronic darts, selling coffee, cakes and drinks, in either easy chairs at the bar”. At junction of Calle Pescadores and Calle Manuel Larido de Tejado. (not far from Bull Ring).

Pub Estudio

“A newly opened large bar, with plenty of easy chairs, offering a wide range of drinks, though no wine, and said to have live Flamenco dancing every Friday”
Just up the road from El Estadio. Calle Estadio.

Isla Canela - Bariada & Golf Course

La Rana

“Specialises in fish, but always seems to have some meat available. Very bubbly service in English, with a Spanish and English menu available, though do ask for it. Check out what the fish is like in their chiller. Typically good value at around 25E per head for 2 courses, wine & coffee.” 'a great informal fish restaurant ... right at the water’s edge and the fish are so fresh you can imagine they jumped straight out of the water into the restaurant.'
Take road on left just before the bridge into Ayamonte.
