Beaches

Endless! well almost. The Atlantic side of Isla Canela has nearly 7 kms of 60m beach which is never busy. In September 2002, Thomson Holidays had a review done across Europe comparing beaches and numbers of beds generating a towel territory rating to give people an idea as to which beaches had most space, and yes, you've guessed it, Isla Canela came out top. It had 14.5 compared to the bottom which was Ibiza's San Antonio with 1.1. Click here to download a Word document with the original press release.

And for the official information on our beaches, see what Ayamonte Council has to say. Click here for information at the main beach, and click here for information about the beach by the marina.

And we've found that the sand is very good for sandcastles. Last October we had a weekend with plenty of sun and over two afternoons built a couple of castles which generated a lot of interest. There's no prize, but if anyone builds ones they'd like to show off, then do send photos of them to ElRinconDelGolf@hotmail.com and they'll be included on this page. P.S. If you want to be inspired, put "Sand Castle" into Google Images and see what others have built. Some are amazing - there are even companies who go around the world building sand sculptures! Here's one example.

But Isla Canela is not the only place in the area with excellent beaches. From Isla Cristina to Punta Umbria excellent beaches abound, many with pine trees and sand dunes. And it doesn't stop at the border. They carry on into Portugal to Tavira and beyond.
