DENISTONE EAST UNITING CHURCH is a local neighbourhood congregation begun in the 1940s from the then Eastwood Methodist Church, as the apple orchards that made this area famous began to be covered by a new housing estate.

The church grew with the suburb. At its peak, as young families who had bought houses in the district sent their children for religious instruction on Sundays, the Sunday School was at least 300 strong.

These days our numbers may be smaller, but we are still an active presence in this community. Our 50th Anniversary was celebrated on 29/30 March, 2003. Today, "Denno" is a warm and welcoming congregation of more than 80 people who are thoroughly involved in the community, and are vitally concerned that people are helped in this life. The annual Market Day on the second Saturday in October raises many thousands of dollars in aid of the Exodus Foundation, a Uniting Church welfare concern in Ashfield, headed by Rev Bill Crews.

More locally, a number of our members are actively involved in Christian Community Aid Service, a social welfare agency, (started by the Eastwood (Lakeside Rd.) Methodist Church), which operates in this district. Our congregation also supports a local ecumenical venture that employs two youth workers at Malvina High School, and the appointment of a Uniting Church Chaplain to Macquarie University. Other members and friends make rug squares and rugs/wraps for "Wrap With Love". We also supported missionaries Greg and Michelle Erofeyeff when they were in Apia, Samoa. An organisation new to Denistone East, "Habitat for Humanity",(Partner Housing) is also being supported. A number of members also assisted as volunteers with the recent Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Our fine facilities are made available for use during the week by a number of community groups.

This social involvement stems from our obedience to Jesus' command to "love our neighbours as ourselves". Like other volunteers we experience this to be a lovely command, not at all hard to obey!

We also seek to obey Jesus' prior command "to love God with all of our being". Apart from helping other people, we love God by meeting each Sunday to worship God, and by studying God's Word the Bible in small groups, and by enjoying each others company.

Any Christian congregation is primarily about helping people into a relationship with God in Jesus Christ. We, the people of Denistone East Uniting Church, are keenly aware that we are "loved by Christ". Quite simply, we feel blessed to be here! In response to this love we "love Christ" back,
and express this love in gathering on Sundays to worship Him, in the various other activities of our congregation, and in "sharing that love" in the various ways described above.

Our services of Worship and Sunday School are at 9.00am on Sundays. Our Couples and Friends Club meets on the 3rd Saturday evening of every month for a night of good company and food and a speaker or games. There are also various other fellowship, study and prayer groups that meet on a regular basis. (Click on "Activities")

You are most welcome to join us in any of the activities of our congregation.
