ETCHINGHAM & FONTRIDGE CRICKET CLUB RECEIVE ROTHER SUPPORT

A cheque for £200 from Rother District Council was presented by the Council's Sports and Development Officer, Adrian Gaylon and local Member Councillor Ian Jenkins on Saturday 15th July 2006 to Etchingham & Fontbridge Cricket Club to help the start up off the club after 67 years.

The aim of the club fits with Rother District Council's aims of providing more leisure & cultural opportunities for the community.

The original flourishing club was lost when their pitch was ploughed up for the war effort but there have been efforts by several local people to develop a side again with the support of many partners including Rother DC. Already a few matches have been played, with Robertsbridge Cricket Club providing a ground. The venture has been key in bringing people together in the village and now a five year development plan has been drawn up. This includes looking for a home ground and in encouraging more people to play cricket especially young boys and girls from Etchingham School.

Councillor Jenkins along with Sports Development Officer, Adrian Gaylon, attended the local village Fete to present the cheque.

Councillor Jenkins said "this venture is bringing together all ages of the village community and by this presentation acknowledges Rother District Council's appreciation of how important exercise and sport can be. It's good to see everyone enjoying themselves while exercising in a sport they love at the same time."
