Etchingham Improvements Committee

THE ETCHINGHAM IMPROVEMENTS COMMITTEE was founded in 1953 to maintain and improve the Queen's Garden, the recreation area adjacent to the Church, which was made to commemorate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Committee is made up of members who are interested in 'improving' the facilities available and the social life of residents.
The committee tries to have a representative from each of the other village organisations, including The British Legion, W.I., Darby & Joan, Playgroup, Church, School, Keep Fit etc.

The Committee has provided the Children's Play Equipment and raises funds to maintain the Gardens.
A considerable sum has to be raised each year to cover the cost of keeping the grass mown and the general area neat and tidy.

Throughout its time, the Committee has organised several fund raising events each year - Coffee Mornings, Beetle Drives, Car Treasure Hunts, Concerts, Quiz Evenings, Summer Fete and Flower and Dog Shows.

An annual Firework and Bonfire Night is held and is open to all village residents.
These activities show a unique blend of Church and Village, acting together for the enjoyment of the whole village community, bringing together the village elders, the mature and the young, cutting across Church and Village boundaries and blending into the friendship that makes Etchingham the live village community that it is.

Newcomers are always welcome to add to the pool of people available to help and, it is hoped, to eneble the Improvements Committee to continue with fresh ideas of what is required by today's younger residents.
Please think about joining the Committee - many hands make light work.
Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month (except for January) in the Village Hall Annexe at 7.45pm.
