Suspension Development

Suspension set-up is always a matter of individual opinion so you have to decide for your self.

Different people have different ideas so there are many answers to the same questions.
All we can do here is tell you what we do as a result of years of experience and research.

There are 2 golden rules with the Capri.   Don't go too low and don't make the rear too stiff.
Most of the weight is at the front so making it stiffers works well. Making the back too stiff will cause loss of traction and stability.

We go for stiffer front springs with good dampers. Originals are fine if in good condition.
We stay with stock single leaf springs on the rear but replace the dampers with adjustable units.
Do not be tempted to set the damping rate too high. That's the mistake most people make. start on no 2 or 3

Of course we fit poly bushes all round and no Capri has ever left our wokshop without an axle kit fitted.

Don't get conned into the X frame rubbish.
When you have actually done some testing and
development, you soon see that forward only bars

A strut brace is not the first thing you should buy but it is worth having.
Stiffer suspension means more force transfered to the inner wings.
More force on the inner wings means more movement.
A strut brace will reduce this and improve steering feel.

If you want to go beyond 220lb springs - this is it
2 1/4 ID springs and adjustable platforms
For the Capri, this is what it should look like
Beware of poor imitations with long springs and
sleves too far down the strut tube.
These are set up with short springs so wider wheels and tyres can be used.
We run Escort Cosworth 8" wheels no problem.
To do this - the lower spring seat must be about where the original was.
If you're going to play on the track, you need these.
Capri's have an over steer issue when pushed - more negative camber is the solution.
Bear in mind that you could run out of track rod end adjustment too.
We supply steering arm spacers to get over this problem.
