E asy walking, mostly on level ground - allow a whole day

Bishop's Bay; A charming walk on a level pathway along the North shore of Loch Leven Turn left off the main road IMMEDIATELY before the Ballachulish Bridge, park before the Loch Leven Hotel. Walk down to the slipway of the former ferry and turn left along the path which ends at Bishop's 8ay. If the tide is low it is worthwhile scrambling onto the headland. This is exquisite in its setting but the descent is tricky so please take care. On your return visit the Chocolate factory. If it is not in production then the energy used on your walk can still be replaced by purchasing some of their excellent products.

Glencoe Lochan Turn left off the A82 and immediately right into Glencoe village, pass through the village over the hump-backed bridge and left into the Glencoe Hospital driveway. In a quarter of a mile fork onto a rough track and park in the clearing shortly ahead. Walk past the gate immediately ahead and turn right when the path forks.

The walk around the loch takes about twenty minutes and a further thirty-minute loop is provided by the Forest Trail which starts at the north-west end of the lochan. The undulating trail is steep in places, but provides panoramic viewpoints. At the head of the loch a VERY steep gravel path provides fine views and an alternative way back to the car park.

On your return through the village visit the Glencoe Folk Museum, privately run it has a marvellous collection of local artefacts and photographs displayed in a marvellously restored group of buildings. Just opposite and a little way down the main street Mrs Matheson's Tearoom is a must for those with a sweet tooth.

Ballachullish Slate Quarry. Leave the A82 at the sign for Ballachullish village and park in the Tourist Information Centre car park. If open, the TIC has a small but informative exhibition about the quarry. Cross the road behind the TIC and enter by the aluminium gate. The path soon opens up to the flooded base of the quarry and you are surrounded by slate waste left over from the end of the workings many years ago.
